tenex again, help! | ADHD Information

My daughter is on tenex. I was told it could make aggression worse in some children, but agree checking for co-morbid conditions may be indicated. We did find we needed to up the dose for her to 1/2 tab at night and 1 tab in the am. When we did that the am dose coming on board with the am Concerta was too much for her. She would get grumpy and irritable. So, moved the big dose to the evening, and that seemed to help. Also, it took a couple of weeks to see the full effect.

Chases big dose is in the evening as well...he takes 1mg in the morning, and 2mg in the evening.

He never got agitated or grumpy....exactly the opposite...he is calmer.

Can I ask if your son is taking any other meds? This has been in addition to a stimulant, concerta, and has controlled my son's impulsiveness and overstimulation, hyperativity.

From what I read from your post, your described how my son reacted to adderall, he became psychotic, looked stoned with his dialated eyes, and angry, aggitated. This happened to escalate while at the pediatrician's office so the doctor was able to witness the whole thing. We stopped adderall immediately!

To have your son have that type of a reaction to tenex, makes me agree with the others about "something" else going on. You definetely need to have him reevaluted. Then he can get the right medication for the right diagnosis!!

Regards!

Beth

Just adding a hug.

Like the others have said, a re-evaluation is in order and it looks like you have that coming up. Please keep us informed on your progress. My thoughts are with you and your son.

Has he been  checked for Bi polar? Or another co morbid?

I am so sorry that it did not work for you!  It has been nothing but good for Chase....

I agree with edbson, have him checked thoroughly for other comorbid conditions if he hasn't been already...

good luck and I hope you get it all sorted out soon

Ok guys!

We're back from spring break!!!

The night that we left, we had an appointment with the psychiatrist and she put him on 1/2 mg. tenex, for the impulsivity and lack of sleep.

It did help him sleep a little better, but he was only on it for 4 days and we had to take him off of it, be was even more aggressive than before.  It was "in your face" mean.  He had even a worse mouth and he raised his hand to me.

I told him to try it and see what would happen, there were 2 men, (my dad and husband) standing right outside the door, try it and see what they will do.  He just looked at me (glared) at me.  Then during the day, he would argue with us and get really weepy.

We called the dr. right away and she said to get him off, immediately.

I got a lot of positives from you guys, that tenex worked for your kids.  I was really impressed.  I thought that this might be the one for my son!  Guess not.

But my question:  is there anybody out there that their kids have an opposite reaction to the meds. that they have been put on?

I don't know where to go next?!  We will meet this Friday with the dr. again.  I just wish that something would help him.  and I know that my son is soooo tired of this too.  My heart goes out to him, yet at the same time, when I'm around him, it's like Jekyl and Hyde.

I guess I might just be a little tired this evening.

If there's anyone out there, please mail me.
