Concerta ? 5 year old | ADHD Information

Share
My 5 year, 9 month old son is currently taking 54mg Concerta once daily (4+ months). I am unsure of the medication's effectiveness at this time at it's present dose level. Does anyone have experience with a child of my son's age taking a higher dosage of concerta? We've already exhausted ritalin, adderall, & adderall XR. No we have never gone up that high ( 36 mg the max).  What type of behaviors is your son experiencing?  Perhaps he might just need a different med that would agument the stimulant ( see the thread on tenex)  or perhaps the stimulants are not for  him.  I suggest you keep a chart of the behaviors and how they change with the various meds.  When my son took the concerta he was quiet but he was not focused as I wanted.  He also had issues with rebound when the med was wearing off.My daughter started with concentra at the age of 5 yrs old at 18 mg and after 3 months we ended up increasing the medication to 37 mg and three months later she was not respondoing to the concentra so we switched to ritalin (at around age 6) my daughter is 7 1/2 years old and still on ritalin (20 mg 2 tables in the am and 10 mg methylphendiate in the afternoon) and responds much better to this medication then the concentra.  So we change medications prior to increasing the concentra agian.  I would maybe talk to your doctor about re-evaluating him to see what would work better for your son or maybe he needs another med to agument the stimulant like joemom's was saying in her post.

Here are two charts on ADHD meds...they dont include some of the newer meds so if anyone has a link to better chart I would love to see it.
