When should I change meds | ADHD Information

Hello,

DS on Ritalin LA for the second time in 18 months... The first time it wasnt working or that is at least what I thought... We have tried several, including, Concerta, Adderall, Strattera... I am concerned becasue when I call the doctor about the meds, she askes ME what I want to do...  I just assume switch... I am also worried because his body seems to be getting used to the meds, and that means increasing the dose.. Does anyone know if it goes by weight??

What is the average dose of Ritalin for a 7 yr. old weighing 53 pounds?

I am soooo frustrated... And what about the rebound???  He has been on meds for 18 months, and I am back where I started...

They are not dosed by weight, but by response....I know that if appetite becomes a problem, the doctor is reluctant to go up on the dose.

I have no idea what a typical dose is but Chase is on 60mg (ritalin LA) once a day, and when that was prescribed, he weighed about 54-55 pounds...since then he has gained 3 pounds at least.....

Have you looked into the tenex (guanfacine) for the rebound issues?  I have also heard that adding the tenex to augment often results in being able to use lower doses of the stim, or rather to allow better results from lower doses...

Tenex is a blood pressure med sometimes used to help with impulsiveness in kids with adhd. The generic name is Guanfacine,

Here you go...and if the doctor is asking you what you want to do and this med looks like a good one to try...you can suggest it.

The 1mg is on the list at walmart......even better!

I have never heard of Tenex.... What is it??I also know that the dose doesn't go by weight. Ds was on 20mg of ritlainsr at from ages 7-11. He is now on 40mg of ritalinsr.  101 pounds.
