This is absolutely unacceptable! | ADHD Information

You need either a different med or a different psych.

I posted yesterday about our struggle with our sons meds.  He did not do well at all with 54mg of Concerta - very moody/aggressive/angry.  I called the dr office yesterday, and said I could not give it to him even one more day, and that I needed to speak with the dr to get a different plan (we were just in to see her a week ago monday).  Didn't get a call back all day, so I called at 5:50.  Found out that dr had left at 4, but had made some notes in our chart - the plan she noted made no sense, probably because the problems were relayed from me to the person who answered the phone, to her - so I told them that I needed a call today so we could figure out what to do.

I took him back to the 36 mg of Concerta for today, even though it left him very impulsive, but at least not angry/aggressive.

I called the office around noon, was told that she had appts scheduled all afternoon, but that she had gotten my message.  Called again at 3:50 because I know she usually leaves at 4.  Was told she still had patients there, and would be running late.

It is now 5:35 and I think it is absolutely unacceptable for a dr not to return a patient phone call for this amount of time.  Especially when the call is about a serious issue with meds.

I am so upset - this is my baby.  And I can't do anything for him.  I can't make the decision of what meds he should or shouldn't take.  When we were first looking for a ped psych, this dr. was one of the only ones in our ins plan.  I have liked her up until now....

Have your tried the guanfacine that is discussed on these boards? That really helped with my son's concerta. He too is impulsive and very hyper. The guanfacine/tenex helps calm him down. It helps him with self regualation.

My son is 9, 10 in June and is at 72mg of concerta and 1 mg of concerta. We add a half a guanfacine for practices if he needs it for the overstimulation stuff!

Hang in there, it took us 6 months to find the med and level off!

Beth

yes, this can be very frustrating.  I'm sorry you are having to deal with this.   I have found doctors in general are difficult to talk to anymore unless you have an appointment to see them.  Keep us updated.  I hope you find what you need or are looking for your child.  Take care.
