What can you tell me about Metadate? | ADHD Information

Hihttp://millermom.proboards107.com/index.cgi?

My 6 yr old boy has been taking Metadate Cd for about one year now.  We have in the past tried  Adderall, Tenex, Clonidine, Ritalin La, without much luck until I requested Metadate Cd after reading alot about it in another board.  You might want to look at it since there is a lot of knowledgeable and good people too that use it with much sucess.  I wrote it up here for you.

We tried different dosages until we found what worked for him

We did 20mgs first. It was wearing off too quick then we did 20 and another 20 after lunch.  It worked for a while but very inconsistent . The dosage that has worked the best for the last 6 months is 30mgs once a day.  He really does well.  He calms down tremendously. He is an extremely Hyper child.

Hope it helps you.

I am having some major issues with my ped psych which I won't go into here.  I cannot get her to call me back personally, but through her office staff she has prescribed Metadate for my 5 1/2 year old son.

I don't want to just give it to him, because I know nothing about it, and I could not talk to her directly to ask her questions.

Doing a quick search on the internet, I did see that it is not recommended for children under the age of 6.

Does anyone have any information that could help?????????  I don't know what to do - my son was on 36 mg of Concerta which did not help him, so she said to try 54 and he became very aggressive.  I will not give him the 54 Concerta anymore, so gave himthe 36 mg this morning...but school says he was very impulsive, couldn't keep his hands to himself all day.  We need to find something that will help him.

concerta and metadate are two different forms of the same drug-methylphenidate. Concerta lasts about 10-12 hours, and metadate lasts different times depending on what type. I believe there are three different kinds that have different release times. I think all stims are approved for anyone over six, but that doesn't mean a child under six absolutely cannot take them...they may just need more supervision. Depending on the issues you are having with your doc, maybe you shouldn't even follow his med route with your son. I am having a similar issue...my old doc recently rx'd me focalin but now it's just sitting in my medicine cabinet b/c right after he rx'd I switched doctors, and my new doc is starting me on concerta.

Trust is key..if you don't trust the doc, I suggest looking for another one. I didn't trust my old doc so I started to doubt that he was prescribing me the best med (he is also very impulsive and didn't really think the whole thing through first)soberxinsanity39161.7032060185

I do trust her, although we have only been seeing her since October.  Just having a very hard time getting her to return a phone call.

Most of the meds I have heard of a lot on these boards - Focalin, Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall, Straterra - but this one I just hadn't heard much about, so it made me nervous.

Thank you very much for your response!!
