Question-not making eye contact | ADHD Information

Share

Hi, oh my goodness.  Someone else like this.  My little girl was diagnosed by a psychiatrist back in September of 2006.  She is 3 almost 4 years old.  She will not look you in the eyes when you are talking to her.  I get on the floor and tell her to look at me and everything.  The only time she will look at me is when she is on her meds.  The doctor told me that with ADHD children that some kids are just wired that they can't focus on you long enough to look at you.  It is almost like electricity running through then.  They can't focus to do it.  It amazed me the first time she looked at me in the eyes.  She had been on her meds for about a day or two when she did it.  Thanks

Kristi

My guy isn't like this all the time - it seems mostly like that late in the day if he gets really overstimulated after the meds have worn off.

I don't recall this happening before he went on meds?

Hi everyone, I think that there may have been a post about this recently, but I can't seem to find it.

I have noticed that after the meds wear off, and my son is acting goofy/crazy and laughing and giggling, that if I try to talk with him, he just throws his head back and laughs and won't look me in the eyes.  He will kind of bob his head back and forth, and look up and to the sides, but not right at me.

He did it last night before his shower, so I sat on the floor in front of him and asked him to focus on my eyes, and then we talked for a little while.  He kind of struggled with looking at me, and wanted to revert to what he was doing before.

Has anyone else seen this?  Is it normal, or could it be the sign of something else?  Will it help if I consistently "practice" on it with him?  It seems to only happen at night, when he comes off the meds and gets all overstimulated.
