Clonidine Dosage | ADHD Information

You might see if your doc could call one of the principal investigators or coordinators at one of the sites currently doing studies on clonidine for pre-schoolers. They might tell your doc what doses they are useing.

Here is another reference for clonidine dosage:

http://www.minddisorders.com/Br-Del/Clonidine.html

"Pediatric doses of clonidine are calculated based on the child's body weight. Clonidine dosage for ADHD in children is 5 micrograms per kilogram of body weight per day orally in four divided doses. Children who require a daily dosage of 0.2 mg usually can use the 0.3 mg dermal patch. If ADHD is associated with sleep disturbances, low to moderate doses of clonidine can be taken at bedtime. Oral doses in children with Tourette's syndrome range from 3 to 6 micrograms per kilogram of body weight per day divided into two to four even doses."

As always, discuss this with your child's doc.

Hi, if anyone knows what is the NORMAL dosage of Clonidine for a 3 year old.  Well she will be 4 in 2 months.  She is currently taking 0.1 mg right now and it is doing ok.  She still wakes up about 3 or 4 times a night.  Which is fine because she goes right back to sleep most times.  She runs 90 to nothing during the day.  My aunt just called me with a news story that a 4 year old died due to overdose of medication.  That is so sad.  Of course, the child was also on Depakote, and the teachers stated that the child was like a zombie or a ragdoll, but it got me to thinking about what is the normal dosage for a 3 year old.  My little girls doctor actually said that she could go up to 2 pills a night but I didn't want to do that.  I am a little paranoid about medications.  Anyhow if anyone knows that answer please le me know.

Your Dr. should be doing blood levels periodically. There IS NO "noraml" dose for a 3yo as it has never been tested in kids of this age. Clonidine for ADHD is Off label prescribing,it is a Blood pressure med,  and I am really not sure there is a "normal Dose".

Who prescribes it? a Psych or a ped?
