Did Meth Lost Adderall Need Help | ADHD Information

Share
I was continully on adderall from 1997-2006.
Last year I began using elicit methamphetamine.
I have not use meth in 4 months but I cannot get my psychiatrist to restart me on adderall. Straterra and wellbutrin do not work for me . Do I have any recourse in getting back on adderall Not really sure how to help. The only thing I can suggest is finding another Dr.
I know mine won't give out Stimulants to any new patient as he's afraid of the abuse issue. That's why I've been put on Strattera. Luckily it is helping me (not as much as I would like, but it helps me enough to get moving and started on projects/cleaning and the rest has to come from me helping myself).

May I ask why you stopped taking the Adderall? Were you abusing it while on it?
I wasnt abusing it but while on meth I was hospitalized for paranoia and when I was released my doctor refused to continue prescribing it I guess I could omit the hospilization part when I get a new doctor but they are going to want to see records from my previous prescribers who have the hospitilization info in their records Any way of finding another Dr that doesn't know the hospital history?  True, but not every Dr is going to think you'll abuse it. Some may look at it and think you were self medicating with the meth.

all is not lost   , adhd is real   and i want choke Vexie
for his comment     for over fifty years  its been a consensus   vexie may very well have a run in with an adhd road rager and wonder why cant i out drive this guy   ive more to post     but a minute  please i got let my little one play on the paint box

I agree with Shawn B about vexie. Why are you on this board? What you said was very rude. Adhd is a very real disorder. I feel sorry for your kid. With that kind of attitude your kid will never get better. I am also a recovering addict. I have been clean for 3 years. Part of me using was because I never really fit in. My self esteem was so low because people always stayed away from me. And that hurts. Today I have accepted that I have adhd, I don't like it but I accept it. Pills will help your kid settle down. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR BUTT!@!!!! Well.. my kids are spoiled indeed... I have my son Dakota's name down there with just spoiled.. he's the only one of the 4 kids not diagnosed with something!

But no, SPD that I refer to is Sensory Processing Disorder.

If you click on that link it'll explain it in better detail.
ShawnB39196.7089814815 Ouch... Are there non-stimulants other than Strattera out there? I thought there were, but I can't think of any now. You could also suggest being given prescriptions for very small (i.e., un-abusable) numbers of pills--maybe five at a time. They do that sometimes for people they don't trust with big doses... mostly it's old folks or really depressed people, but maybe you'd qualify? It would be a hassle, but after a while of proving you're not going to abuse it, maybe they'd switch you to normal once-a-month things.

It's really a matter of getting a doc who'll go out on a limb for you. If he prescribes a stimulant to somebody he knows used to use meth, and then that person goes and abuses the stimulant, then he can be in BIG trouble--as in, malpractice trouble. Most doctors will cover their own butts unless they really, really trust you not to try to get high on the stuff.

If you have to be on Strattera, you can do worse than drinking a lot of coffee. Make sure not to drink any on the weekends, or you'll build up a tolerance and it won't work as well. (And stock up on painkillers for Saturday morning headaches.)

Apparently Strattera needs to build up in your body for a while before it starts working--have you given it enough time? A couple of weeks is usually enough. Also, the side-effects usually go down as your body gets used to it. If you get any benefit from Strattera, it's probably better than nothing.
Callista39183.5755324074I used to self medicate with Meth/Crank/Phenylpropalamine/Etc. before getting my diagnosis and did confess as much to my psychiatrist.  However, I stopped using a couple years prior to my diagnosis and would never consider concurrent illicit stimulant use and am justifiably paranoid (cautious) about using such things even if I were to lose my current prescription meds.  I must agree others that your doctor would be showing poor judgement to simply let you resume taking Adderal as if nothing happened.  That would be like offering cigarettes to someone you just watched put on a 2nd nicotine patch.  You could certainly offer to try what Callista said and put yourself on a voluntary "probation" period where you only get a very limited supply to demonstrate to the doctor that you are serious.  Also, if you have not tried the long lasting versions of Methylphenidate like Concerta, you might ask your doctor about that, some consider them less likely candidates for abuse.

Good luck.
Why would a doctor prescibe a stimulant to a meth head? If you told your docotr or if he cares enough to notice-he put it on your file you are a junkie- you OD-he gets sued. I don't think it's right for you to expect your physcian to risk his career for your addiction. This is another reason I am having trouble accepting add as an actual disorder. I really want to be convinced. It would be great if I could make my new son's life easier with a pill-but I'm just not getting it.
Why are you even on this board? How nice and judgmental you are.. We're not here to convince you. This diagnosis is quite real to me and two of my kids. that was proven by several Psychological tests, and an EEG, not to mention Occupational Therapists Evaluations. Not just a single Dr talking to us for a couple of minutes and saying.. yeah, you're ADHD here's some drugs. A 'pill' doesn't make it all better... it helps, but you still have to contribute on your own. Would you deny your child insulin if he/she were diabetic?

Are all mental illnesses/disorders un-real to you? how about depression? Is that fake too or would you deny your child medication and allow them to harm themselves or commit suicide simply because you think they should snap out of it? Wow..what it would take to convince you it's real huh?

True he used meth.. so what? A lot of people have self-medicated before, during and after being diagnosed. He's no longer using and that's what matters.

I swear stupidity should be deadly.
ShawnB39195.8354861111Shawn, I've a question, does SPD mean --> spoiled?

Me: buncha stuff, Alex 8 ADHD Concerta 18 mg,  Aidan 4 Vanilla maybe with no meds.
