Concerta vs. ritalin vs. metadate | ADHD Information

My son started taking Ritilan about 3 years ago and it worked great at first but over time it wasn't having any affect on him so we switched to metadate, he took that for 2 years but he couldn't take it 7 days in a row or he would be sick on the 7th day. Recently he was complaining about how it made him feel and it was wearing off before school was over. We just switched him again 2 weeks ago to Concerta 27 mg hopefully it will continue to work better for him! It seems to be so far
There is also Ritalin LA which is a long acting version of this drug.  You should ask your sons physician about it.  -Gettingagrip-
my son has been on the  L.A and it causes him anger problems i have never had before with my son> to be honest that is what brought me to this board, to try to find help for him and more info on the meds.My son also does not sleep well and he has always been this way even without the meds. We have also tried the XR and we had the same problem with anger.

My son has been on Concerta for 3 years with good results while on it but insomnia and irritability when it wears off.  On the weekend I gave him 5mg. of ritalin instead and he was so much more animated and slept better.  I don't want to use it in school because going to the nurse is stigmatizing.

Do many people use metadate?  Although they are the same basic med sometimes one works better than another because of the delivery system.  I don't see much talk about metadate - I wonder why concerta seems a more popular choice.  I appreciate any information.  Thanks.

I think Metadate is just a lot newer so not as many have tried it yet.

If ritalin works better I would have him go to the nurse and get the pill. He doesn't have to tell the other kids that he's going to the nurse or that he's taking a med for adhd. Hell he can pretend he's going to the bathroom as long as he's getting the right med to treat his symptoms.

My son has tried ritalin, Adderallxr Concerta and Metadate. The Concerta and Metadate seemed to work about the same it just left his system a lot sooner, leaving him a lot more emotional in the afternoons (by 1:30-2pm) and he couldn't come home and do schoolwork or anything. The Concerta seems to last until about 5-6pm and the change isn't so drastic when it wears off.My son started on ritalin, many different doses, then went to metadate, then so on and so on until he was put on concerta, and concerta seems to be the only thing that works for him, he doesn't have much of a sleep problem though, he usually is awake only a half hour after he goes to bed. There is also Ritalin LA which is a long acting version of this drug.  You should ask your sons physician about it.  -Gettingagrip-My son also had very bad reactions to the Adderalxr. I only let him take it for 2 days.
My son takes 27mg. of Concerta. The 27 just isn't quite enough but when we went up to 36 it was too much. Now we are going to try adding 10mg of Strattera with it(the 27).What does concerta does he take. My son has tried adderall, metadate and has bad side effects from adderall and metadate wore off and he did not so well on it. He has never tried Ritalin yet.
