I told my doc about my symptoms, but he didn't seem concerned. He said to keep taking the medication and follow up as scheduled. It's weird, becuase at around 9 or 10 in the evening, both my bp and heart rate go up. This morning, I woke up with a bp of 140/90 and a pulse of 85. During the day, my bp is around 135/85. Wonder if the minoxidil I take in the morning wears off around evening time, then the sustained release concerta spikes my bp?
Still have the pounding feeling in my chest throughout the day though, regardless of whether my heart rate is slow or fast.
Man...I'd really rather be on Strattera. I can't see how s stimulant can be good for me considering I'm a nervous wreck most of the time.
Strattera raises bp too, so it's not just the stimulants. I was put on Tenex to help lower the blood pressure increase caused by Strattera.I appreciate the responses. I'll be following up with my doc in about 20 days. Should I just wait until then? I can't see how a heart beat of 110 would be life threatening in just a short amount of time.
Alcyone39169.3115856481I would call and just tell them your concern and let the doc decide if it warrants prompt attention or not. That way, you can relax and not wonder.Don't wait at all. You should be calling them and just explaining your symptoms.
Any time something you're taking has symptoms that are a bit much you should be on the phone and not waiting til your next follow up visit.
As Chasesmom79 said, this way you'll at least know for sure and you'll not just be wondering.
This is definately something you should be asking a doctor about. Given your history and the symptoms you are experiencing, you need to tell your doctor.....Hello all,
I just recently started taking Concerta (36 mg). I've been on it for about a week. I decided it was time to do something about my tendency to day dream all the time and this is what my doctor put me on.
At first, it seemed to calm me down and make me a little drowsy, now those side effects have gone away. However, over the past several days my heart rate has increased significantly and there's this sucking feeling in my chest.
I do have a history of high blood pressure and also suffer from hair loss. Hence, I take oral minoxidil to kill 2 birds with one stone. At the same time I started taking concerta, I increased my minoxidil dose to 5 mg.
I'm trying to determine if my heart rate is because of the minoxidil or concerta. Does concerta usually do this?
Not sure why the doc didn't put me on Straterra given my history of high blood pressure and anxiety attacks. Although it hasn't made the anxiety any worse.
Any thoughts on this? Will the heart rate return to normal over continued use?
I appreciate the concern. Fortunately, my heart rate has gone back down today. I'm not sure what it was but for several days there, it was a bit fast. However, should problems reoccur I'll definately do as advised.
Thanks

You wouldn't want to be on Strattera. It has been linked to heart attacks, palpitations, and cardic disorders. It often gives chest pain. In fact, the studies find an increase of 10 bpm complared to placebo group.
