My son has been on Daytrana for 5 days now and he has huge mood crashes about an hour after the patch has been taken off. Tonight he punched me in the hip for telling him he could not have a soda. Every night has been a huge mood change about one hour afterwards. No tics as yet but compulisive talking. I'm thinking the cure is worse than the problem. I'm giving it a bit more time. He's only on 10 mg. I also purchased 15 and 20 boxes because my docs. plan was to move him up every 5 days till he got to 20. I am wondering too if the pharmacy might take them back since they are in boxes in foil if we need to change to 10mg. I may try cutting them in half too as you said if they won't because my insurance won't cover this med. and it's 0 per month.
I would say the 15mg is too high also. it does take about 2 hours to start working, and will last for 3 hours when it is removed. it does not build up in the system.
I don't advise cutting them, it makes them less effective in my experience.
I'd say that the dose he's on is too high. My ds switched from 40mg of Ritalin a day to 30mg of Daytrana. Because of the delivery system, he doesn't need as much. Now I don't know how that would translate with a change from Metadate to Daytrana, but you have my input. The package info says you shouldn't cut the patch in half, but there have been a few who come to this forum who have done it. I'm not suggesting that you should do it as an ongoing practice, but that might be an idea to see what he does on a reduced dose. Those things are too expensive to waste 29 patches because it's not the right dose. I don't know, but maybe the pharmacy would take them back if it turns out you can't use them. HTHMy 5 yr old was switched from Metadate to Daytrana. Today is his first day in school since starting Daytrana. The teacher just called reporting that Jake is complaining about a twitch in his eye. He has also been having "issues" every couple of hours. He was pulled out of the classroom three times today. Once for pulling headphones off a kids head and breaking them, then for screaming and then he started wadding up paper and throwing it. He also announced that today is his last day and that he is not coming back!
Has anyone else's child had tics with Daytrana and did they subside? And isn't this drug supposed to work in a couple of hours? It doesn't build up in the system does it? Should I give it more time? He started it on Saturday. He is taking 15 mg.
Our only complaint about Metadate was that he was metabolizing it too quickly and he had about an hour every day that he did not do too well.
