Concerta and Sleeping too Much | ADHD Information

Share
I was taking 72mg of concerta and after about 6 months i got off the meds and i was tired like that until my withdrawl symptoms wore off. It was pretty bad for me.  I would have to leave work sick and sleep in my car.Exact same thing happens to me, exactly. I take Adderall XR, 75mg, which is a rather large dose for Adderall. On the weekends i also usually skip medication, and i get realllly sleepy.

One side affect of Adderall is that it keeps you up. Its listed as Secondary insomnia. its not that bad, the name insomnia sounds a bit harsh as it just tends to keep me up about 3 or 4 hours longer. i'm a heavy sleeper too, and after a day on which i took my meds, i can tend to sleep lighter once i do get to sleep.

So trust me, i know EXACTLY what you mean. Although i take 75mg, and have for over 6 years now, i've have never and still have not developed any dependence on it, i can stop taking it whenever i choose, although i have no reason to.
This may not be scientifically backed up, but to me it seems like some form of the bodies withdrawel, it doesnt seem like withdrawels because all i feel is tired. however ADD medications are stimulants and maybe once you deprive your body of it, it feels the effects of being tired.

Nevertheless, what you're experiencing is normal, inconvienient, but normal.

Thanks guys.  I appreciate the feedback and feel more at ease knowing there are others out there experiencing the same thing.

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with adult ADHD (I am a 34 yr. old male) about half a year ago and have been on Concerta since along with 20mg of Paxil for social anxiety.  I take 72mg of Concerta in the morning and 36mg in the early afternoon (around 1pm).

Anyway, I've noticed a very disturbing side effect over the last couple months which has my pysch baffled.  I don't really get "great" sleep when I'm on my meds, but I don't really suffer too badly from insomnia either.  Let's just say that typically I'm a very heavy sleeper, but when I'm on my meds I am more of a light sleeper.  Sometimes on the weekends I won't take my meds because there are times when I feel worn down from my meds from the previous work week.  When I don't take my meds on the weekends though I can't help but constantly sleep.  I will sleep for 12-14 hours and then also take 2-3 hour naps during the day.  Needless to say, this basically erases my weekend as all I do is sleep.  Anyone suffer from this?  Any insights?

Thanks in advance.
