Daytrana Patch | ADHD Information
I'm new here. Question has anyone had much success with Daytrana Patch? My son is 7 and has only been on it 5 days but he has had excessive talking, stomach aches, crying fits, not eating. The talking is the worst has anyone else experienced this side affect? Does it go away over time? Any information would be much appreciated. I see most of the postings are back in 2006.
my son is 10 and the first days were hard, he got sick the first day and after that he tells me he will never take anything but the patch. give it more time, I now have to remind him to take it off. He got very good grades last trimester on the patch and for the most part all is good school wise. He doesn't eat in the day but eats like crazy at night. The phcs. says this is ok. give hin anything at night and trust me. the side effect on this drug is crying and weepyness, but if you cant deal with it i,t is the best if your child can t swallow a pill. I will say that when they are off the drug they are the same out of control children. I take my son off on weekends because of his weight. It is not always pretty on the weekends but it is the only option for him, because he can't ingest pills.
My son heard from the doctor very early that he may have a stomach ache on adderall and this stuck in his mind so if the doc said words like that , trust he heard every word.
We are having good results so far with the Daytrana patch. DS complained
initially of stomach pains, but it went away. He is 6 1/2. DS uses both the
15 mg patch and 10 mg patch. The 10mg patch helps his anxiety outside
with bugs. With the 15 mg patch, he is very freaked about bugs in the
spring/summer. It increased his anxiety. However, in colder weather, the
15 mg patch is ideal. Sounds strange, but that's how it works for us. He
keep it on from 5:45 am until 5:00 pm or as late as 6:30 pm if he has an
evening activity. Once the patch is off, he is "singing" again and back to his
old ways. His doctor said to keep the patch on as long as he needs it since
he metabolizes med extremely quick and it has no lasting effect once the
patch is taken off. We tried several oral meds, but this was the best. Focalin
XR only lasted half the time it should have. Give it a few more days. Maybe
your son needs a higher dose? Here is the link on the patch...hope it helps

There should be a Daytrana thread....try checking in the ADHD Medications...My daughter took hers off so we couldn't use that one!!!
Thank you to all, sorry I started a new board for the patch I didn't realize there was one. Now I'm seeing several I've tried to move this one into the others but it's not working. Anyhow, I'm grateful to hear your experiences with the patch. Do any of your children have huge mood melt downs after the patch has been removed? My son had another terrible one about 1 hour after I took the patch off this afternoon. I'm getting worried that it's making him worse. I want to stick it out till he goes back to school at least because at home it's harder to tell if it's working. I don't want to leave it on longer because he can't fall asleep. I'm finding that if I give him bits of food all day he will eat some. I also think that there is some sort of connection with stomach aches and being in the car. Perhaps it causes motion sickness a bit I think because he mostly says his stomach hurts in the car.
