We never had a problem with the tenex (guanfacine) affecting sleep.
I am assuming you are not giving any late afternoon or eve stimulants, right? If you do.....timing is critical to not affect sleep.
Have you excluded any other reasons for sleep interuption? I had one friend whose daughter's adenoids were so enlarged and swolen, they were cutting off her breathing at night and she would wake up gasping for breath. It really screwed up her sleep cycle. An ENT ear nose throat doctor would rule this and any tonsil problems out.
What about nightmares and night terrors waking him up? My son had both when younger. He was also prone to anxiety......and he would tend to get up out of bed and come into our room just to reasure himself we were still there, etc. Sometimes anxiety is really a problem for sleep.

He may have adjusted to the guanfacine and the sedating side effects are no longer present, or the night dose is not high enough for the calming effect. It is worth trying without the dose to evaluate the issue (under doc orders).
We recently decreased guanfacine as a trial to see if she really needed 2mg AM and 2mg at night, now that the focalin is working optimally. Hyperactivty was much increased and she was not sleeping well again. So we went back to the working regimen and things are good again. We also know what effects each med contributes.
My son is currently taking 1 mg. of guanfacine in the morning with his dexedrine and I was giving him 1/2 tab of guanfacine in the evening along with melatonin. He is now waking up around 2 to 3 a.m. and cannot go back to sleep. I am meeting with the doc on Monday and thinking of stopping the evening dose of guanfacine. Has anyone had issues with their child waking up after the evening dose? It seems like the guanfacine does not make him drowsy at all.
