i often wondered about why this isn't more common. i guess because it is a medical condition that has a social taboo on it, people are afraid to disclose that they have this condition.
my question is - has anyone successfully set up a friendship for their child? how did you do it?
i thought of "volunteering" to start one by posting a notice with our neuropsychologist.
where are you located? I am in South Carolina.I am in California, but I just want to tell you how special you are to your grandchildren. My son 10 plays runescape on the computer and they could communicate this way. I hope you find someplace in your area that they can form friendships. Good luck! let me know if he wants to play runescape with my son. my son would love it!Hey aus10,
My son is 9 this June and plays runscape as well! I would love to set up a play date with our sons! How do we do this?
I am in Massachusetts, 3 hours ahead of you guys!

Have the parents looked into social skills groups? It sounds like it would be perfect for him.
He's very lucky to have such an involved grandmother.
Hey ladies, what is runscape? I wonder if Chase would like it.....I have often wished that we could set up a "children's room" on this forum...or make a new message board for the children. I think it would be terrific for them to get online (as we parents do) and discuss things that interest them, and issues that they face.....Have you tried meetups? Someone posted it in another place on this forum for an ADHD meetup group. you can look at meetup.com there is a place where you can enter where you live and it will produce a list of meet up groups. check it out you might find something your grandson would be interested in. Maybe you could start and ADHD meetup group in your area as adhd kids can have unique issues related to social interaction not to mention the support you can get from other adults experiencing similar issues.
Good Luck!
I am in Dothan Al. I have an 11 yr old son (not ADHD) and a 5yr old daughter (ADHD). I am not sure how far you are from me.I have an 11 year old grandson in sarasota florida. He is finishing 5th grade and really needs a friend. We've tried talking about the characteristics of being a friend, we've modeled the behaviors, and sometimes it helps. I'm looking for someone with a child in our area who would be willing to try and get 2 kids together to practice friendship skills, with the hope of learning how to be a friend. He loves video games, nature and physical activity, although everything has to be supervised minute by minute because of his intense competiveness. I would be glad to bring him to a park to get to know the parent and give the kids a chance to get to know each other. If anyone in the area has a similar need or interest, please let me know.
I look forward to someone in our area getting in touch
Thank you
Grandmother Bobbie
Your grandson is a lucky boy to have a grandmother like you Bobbie!
I wish I lived in your area, but unfortunately, we are up here in Boston.
Best wishes!

I would love to help, but my son is only 7, with behaviours of a younger child. I don't think he is what your Grandson needs, but I am at least closer, I am in Highlands County, Florida. Good luck to you!how did you guys get on ...when we tried to register they said he had to be older than 13?Hey guys, my son plays this all the time and is a member. He is on April school week vacation. Because of my job, we will be "around" if anyone wants to try to do this. Son is almost 10!
Thanks
Beth
Hi! My two sons (the 8 yr old is ADHD) both play Runescape and love it. Maybe we could set up a time for them to play. My oldest son Alex is the expert and he says that you go onto www.runescape.com , start an account (this is free), make up a user name and password then there are certain "worlds" you can go into without being a member. You make a list of your friend's user names and while playing you can instant message them. All instructions for the game are on the site under "manual". We live in Florida. Hope this helpsBobbie, my son is nearly 9 (although immature for his age), and while he obviously can't meet you at the park (we are in South Africa), I was wondering if your grandson would like to write to my son? I will discuss it with my son when he comes home from school and if you think your grandson would be interested, PM me and I will give you our PO Box address.
Hi guys, sorry i haven't had a chance to get on in a while, as far as RUNESCAPE goes my son is so excitied to have new firends so this is the web site www.runescape.com if you put him is as a buddy he is (michealsw0rd) yes that is a zero in sword it is a game that I personally don't understand, but he enjoyed it. I told him about this so he is very excited. I hope they can hook up. that would be great. The game can also be frustrating in the beginning so if it isn't for the type of game have my son help him or her. I hope they like it, all the boys in my sons 4th grade class play it, sorry it took so long to get back.
