adderall XR strength

I am 19 female and take a higher dose. Everyone needs a different amount depending on how the brain metabolizes the drug...

The drug works differently for everyone. Doctors usually start with a small dose and increase until you get the desired benefits. I'd say that is high if your son was just diagnosed and just put on med otherwise it is completely normal. Adderall is an Amphetamine, dosage isn't measured by age or weight for these types of drugs. Hope that helps.

My 17 year old is on 50mg of Adderall XR-does anyone else take that high of a dose?

He has been on the 50mg strength for over a year and increasingly seems to be more irritable (didn't seem to be an issue in the beginning).  My physician said the max strength of Adderall XR is 30mg-I'm curious is anyone else has been on this high of strength.

Believe- If your son seems to be getting more irritable, perhaps a different amount or an alternate medication would work better. The max strenth of Adderall xr is 30 mg per capsule, but not a max to prescribe. There are many websites that say "max prescribed", however, my doctor has been working with ADD/ADHD for almost 30 years and he said that there really is no technical maximum. As I said in my previous post, I'm 19, female, and take 75 mg per day because I metabolize the drug very quickly. Each person needs to find out what amount works best with them, and there are no "guidelines" as to how much certain people take. (In other words, it isn't based on height/weight/sex.) Again, if your son seems to be increasingly irritable, perhaps he could find an alternate medication or "plan" that works better for him. Good luck!
