Straterra is used alot in conjunction with stims, and is usually fine. It tends to help with the stimulant rebound. As long as your child is at the target dose for weight then it should be fine.
We are trying a combination of straterra and Ritalin LA and I am wondering if anyone has experience with this. My almost 9 year old took Ritalin LA 30 for 3+ years and it worked great until about 6 months ago when he started having trouble concertrating well enough to get through school and reading assignments. We upped to 40 mgs. and he became very edgy and sensitive. We tried switching to metadate cd 30, then 40 and they were worse than the Ritalin with the side effects. So we're back to the Ritalin 30, which is the stimulant that seems to wrok best for him, but he still needs help with focus. I found a pharmacy that can put Straterra into liquid form (he has tried but cannot swallow a pill yet), so we're working our way towards a 25mg daily dosage based on his weight. His psychiatrist is fine with all this but told me he didn't have much experience with the drug combo - he looked it up and said there wasn't a problem with him taking them both at the same time. One of the reasons we are trying this is that Straterra helped his big brother with attention and focus.
I'd be very grateful for any advice or experiences with this.
Watch out with the Strattera.. Watch him CLOSER then you EVER have before, for any mood changes, or depressed thoughts. My 5 1/2 year old became more Aggressive, and had severe meltdowns (crying and tantrum throwing at the drop of a hat if she didn't get her way).
