This is a standard IQ test. You can look at a few things with this test. First is the intelligence low, high, etc. Second, is there a spread in the subtests (low scores on things for processingor memory: and high for things like problem solving or spatial intellegence). Also the tester can make observations on how well the child stays on task or needs redirection. Third, it can be compared to other tests like the wookcock-johnson test (an achievement test) to see if there is a large difference between intellegence (ability) and achievement (another indicator of learning disorders).
The public school district in which you reside provides evaluations for learning disorders under IDEA (it is called childfind). Here are resorces for testing and learning disorders that may be helpful:

vickie39185.9243981481I hope you can get testing through the school, I haven't had any luck yet. My son is in 2nd grade and is having problems with reading, phonics, and other things. I asked last week and they keep wanting to try new interventions (looks like they are trying to avoid testing) to see if anything else helps. We have been trying new things all school year without much improvement.
I took him to a psychologist that was going to do some testing, but our insurance will not pay and I appealed their decision without any luck. Ins said ADHD diagnosis did not require testing, could be done by rating sheets. Also said learning disabilities testing could be done through the school.
The school told me IF they tested the earliest they would do it was during the summer. We have had spring break this week, but I know they had a meeting with his teacher before they got out for break. I'm calling they Monday morning to find out some answers.

I'm not familiar with all of the details of the law, but you have legal rights here. I believe the school is required to provide testing if a parent requests it in writing. I also believe that they have to conduct the testing within a certain time period. I'm pretty sure this is a federal law, and not a local issue.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I am can offer insights on this.
Also, be warned that schools tend to try to avoid diagnosing kids with disabilities. Their caseloads often are too high, so they try to avoid having to provide services (if you have a documented disability, they're legally required to provide services, if they're needed). Just because the school concludes that there's no ADHD or learning disability, don't necessarily assume that's the case. You might need to go the private route. If you can't get a full eval. done privately, at least go to a psychiatrist and see what that person has to say. Or, some pediatricians are very knowledgeable about these matters and can be helpful.
Did you contact the school about testing yet?
