Concerta 54 Overdose

My son who is 9 and takes concerta 54 once a day, got into his medication around 5 this morning,(he's never up that early!), then woke me up and informed me that he had made a mistake and taken 2 of his pills! I called poison control, his doctor, and the local psychiatric hospital right away, and they are all saying that since he has been taking it since he was 5 that he should be fine, but i am still paranoid and watching him like a hawk for any symptoms. I don't have a car and called a cab 2 hours ago to go to the hospital, I am still waiting for it to show up. If he starts showing any symptoms I will call an ambulance, but they said I can't call an ambulance now, because he is showing no symptoms. Has anyone else's child ever done this?I agree he should be fine. I think thats a common mistake that even adult ADDers make sometimes. I know I have forgotten that I took a pill and about an hour later took another only to remember later that I did infact take it. I've done it a couple times and no problems so try to relax. It's good your aware of it but he'll be fine.Thank you, I feel more at ease now. It is now 7:46 am, and he's still showing no symptoms. He seems normal, a little more absorbed in his video game than usual, but other than that, he seems fine. I am still waiting on a ride, but like I said before, If it doesn't come, and something happens, i'll call 911. I think he's going to be ok too, everyone I have called has said it is not life threatening. I was just so scared, and I feel like it's my fault. I am going to hide his medication from now on. I just don't understand why he would do that, when he knows he only gets one pill a day from me. I mean, he's been taking it since he was 5. I'm just gonna keep him within my vision all day. If nothing happens by 2 pm, I think i'll be able to relax a little. Thanks again.

LOL no problem I hope you get to relax just think he will most likely me more focused then ever before. Might wind up being the least stressful day you've had in awhile.

Anyway Take Care, glad I could put your mind at ease even if it's only a little bit.

Cara

he still seems fine , thanks again :) i think i'll save this board to my fav's. it's nice to have some support, if only i knew about it years ago.last night my husband accidentally gave our 4 year old a third dose of adderall!!! he is supposed to get risperdal at night and i asked the hubby to give him his meds, well he gave him adderall instead!! i called the doc right away and he said he would be fine and the only side effect will be him having trouble sleeping. Well at 10:30 pm i passed out and he was still watchin disney channel in our bed. I suppose he was up for hours cause i couldnt wake him up to take my daughter to school this morning. I had to carry him out of bed!!! i think your son will be fine and dont worry, it happens to others as well. lol. Good luck!!!

Here is a thought for future reference wile I  know it is hard to keep them out of things, try putting the med in a locked cabnet when not isin use or when you are sleeping. It isn't a trust issue but a safety one. If their judgement could be trusted on these things then they wouldn't need the meds. one of my friend children did the same thing with a different med and we had to give her epicack. It was a mess as the pills looked like candy to her.  Luckily my kid has to be forced to take pills. It is a worry when they do get in to the meds but you know what? You should be extremely proud that your child told you he took an extra one. You must have very good communicatins with him. Be proud of him. My sister has a severely adhd 16 yr old with the mental ability of a 1st grade. Not only does the child have to get herself off to school she is allowed to self medicate and she cant read the pill bottle. Sometimes I want to kick my sister.

Ihope you have better days and less worry.
