I wish you the best of luck with the appointment!
Hello Everyone:
I was recently diagnosed with ADD and my psychologist has requested that I start a physcho stimulant (no strattera) to help with my symptoms. My GP started me on 18mg of Concerta two weeks ago. The side effects were awful (headaches, feelings of a sinus infection, ear ache, etc.) and I have a very demanding job as a Marketing Director - so side effects that interferred with my every day life is a huge factor. I finally got her to change my medication to Ritalin LA - she started me off at 10 mg once per day in the am. None of the pharmacies in my area supplied or provide Ritalin LA in the 10mg form. They have the 20 and 40 LA, but not the 10mg. So, she authorized them to change it to metadate 10mg ER (generic for Ritalin LA?). I think the med is wearing off too soon. Although it is better than the Concerta - I start to feel really drained and unfocused about 5-6 hours later. My doctor stated that she wants me to stay at 10mg Ritalin LA for a month (which was on a post it note attached to the prescription). I have done some research and it states online that the symptoms I am having later in the day could be rebound and my dose should be increased by 10mg per week until a suitable dose is found. Unfortunately, I believe that this clinic deals with drug seekers all of the time and I am wondering if she is afraid to increase my dose as recommended or if maybe she does not have the experience to treat adult ADD. She has no problems treating my daughter - but with me, a complete different subject. She wanted to try me on Strattera - but the Psychologist insisted on no Stattera - not sure why but that was her firm recommendation. Please help me, I feel like crap during the mid and late day, which I can not stand. I use to be so energetic - which I am my normal self in the morning after meds, just more focused. During the afternoon- I am irritable, tired and have no drive. Thanks for reading this and any suggestions.
