I am on concerta starting today. I was recently diagnosed with add. BUT I don't think the pill is working. I know I usually have to wait a week or two, but pills usually work right away for me. I don't feel anything. My eyes feel kinda weird, like they have water or something in the back of them. But my concentration is still off. I am taking 18mg. What happens if I increase my dose by taking two pills of 18mg? Of course i'm going to ask my doctor first. My add is wearing me down. I have lost my job and recently dropped out of college. I figured that since i'm taking this, I should sign up for school again, and look for a job. I wanted adderall, is adderall better than concerta? I just feel I need to get to work and school, i'm only 21. My life shouldn't stop here.
18mg is the starting dose for tritrating up to an effective dose. You start low to reduce or avoid side effects. What titration schedule did the doc discuss with you? If one was not discussed, call the doc and ask. Stick it out with the concerta, but ask the doc to speed up the titration a bit.
If the concerta fails, then ask for something else. Docs usually start patients on meds they have the most success with and are most experienced at managing.
In the trials on kids, 18mg was the effective dose ~20% of the time. Most needed 36 or 54mg (27s were not around then). When my kids were on it the effective dose for the youngest was 27 and the oldest 36. These figures are just for reference as everyone is different.
Good luck on this journey so you can get your life going agian.
