weighted blankets? | ADHD Information
I have seen some mention of weighted blankets or vests, can someone give me more info on these or direct me to where I can find out more? Thanks! I live in Arizona, so I'm not sure about the heat issue and added weight, but I'm curious...
Weighted blankets are for sensory issues. The additional weight is calming and relaxing. I bought a very Ralph Lauren comforter for my son and he LOVES it. He sleeps like a baby. Below is a link that may help find a blanket, or some information!

We used a weighted blanket for many years for my sons sensory issues. It is supposed to be up to 10% of their weight I believe. The school let us try there's out first before I invested in one. Do your research on them. Each company fills them with something else. I wanted one that I could wash so we ordered them with poly beads. Some use popcorn, some use sand, etc. I ended up ordering mine on line through a lady on ebay. It was much cheaper than the other sites I found and she let me pick the fabric my son would like. We recenly decided that we didn't use it anymore and we donated it to a charity that does sensory work. Hi Live and Love,
My son does not have "sensory issues" but ADHD. I read about weighted blankets on this site and researched them. I bought him a weighted blanket and a weighted vest. The blanket helps him sleep and the vest helps him "calm down" on the weekends when he is off meds. He really likes both and won't sleep without the blanket. I will try to bump the thread for you.
I used Quiet Quilts because hers can be laundered. There are cheaper alternatives. My husband and I were going crazy trying to figure out why our ds insisted on piling every stuffed animal he owns, many toys and 4 blankets on his bed to sleep under!! We emptied the bed many times and he would just fill it back up again. Reading these posts was like a light going on in my head!! I have ordered some Poly Pellets and will be making him a weighted blanket ASAP. This forum is a wonderful place to get answers! Thanks! You can buy these products online. There are weighted lap pads also. My OT says that kids get used to the weighted vests b/c they stay on, and eventually stop having any effect. The weighted yolks seem to work pretty good. The hook around the neck.
