Ideas other parents have on sensitive ego | ADHD Information

My child, not yet 5 and not medicated is so touchy.    any child can say stuff and he takes it so personally.   you know how kids are and almost everything they say is a bit mean and my son gets upset or angry.

we take a sskills class and get play therapy, but in that 'contolled' environment, kids are better behaved.

any thoughts, ideas, books, therapies i can help him be less touchy?  it is sad.    Thanks all.

My son is super sensitive and at the beginning of the school year cried about everything! He is still senstive but we have done a lot of role-playing and reading since than about different ways to help himself with his emotions and action. We have a set of books about different things such as teasing,lying,over-doing it,selfishness...and these have really helped him because they give you ideas about things you can do instead of the above. It is constant working with him though because at times he forgets and would rather cry. We are working on getting him a "tougher skin"...

Talk to him about practicing ignoring it, walking away until he's calm. Let him practice with you at the park when he is playing with other kids. Ask him after school if he practiced ignoring things kids said that he took the wrong way. Ask him what he noticed when he used this skill.

We can teach the skill, but he needs to practice it, or he'll just react impulsively to everything they say and you know the rest.

What is the name of the book/series of books that you use? Thanks.

I did here something today on Dr. Laura.  A woman was praising an man for being a good parent.  His child was running up and dowm the driveway many times.  He came to a fall on his face and knees.  The father reacted by saying "GOOD SAVE"  The child brushed himself off and went about playing.  I know, too easy, yet we don't do it.  I'm going to try it. let you know if it works

OK, all ;  if you have these books and are happy with them.,,,,,

share it with others!!!!  What books?   what authors?     TIA
