We did the first dose today. One side effect was trouble sleeping. He has been asleep for about 4 hours now and I don't know if I should be concerned. I tried to wake him up and talk to him he just kinda looked at my funny. I told him I loved him and gave him a hug. He looked at me and said why which is a very odd response from him. He kind of acted offended that I said this which isn't like him at all. Normally I get a big hug back and he says I love you too mommy.
I just don't know if maybe he is relaxed enough to get needed rest or if something is maybe wrong. The school said they didn't notice any change there today so I don't know if this is related to meds or not.

I am running to a basketball game, but here goes...
I tried Focalin on my son, january 2006. He started acting toooooo weird. He lost sleep, appetite, stopped growing. I tried it six months straight, until I finally said "enough". Too many side effects and a huge change of personality. I didn't like the boy my son turned into.
We stopped in July.
I've been trying OT, Sensory Integration since September 2006. I wouldn't go back to meds for one million dollars, but I also know a lot of people for whom meds have worked well.
Hope this helps!!
I am sorry if I am asking a question that is obvious, but he is having trouble sleeping and he is hard to wake up? When did he fall asleep and when did you try to wake him? Also what med, dose and time was the med given? It would be easier to sort it out with this info.
Early on, the meds can cause sleep disturbances both trouble sleeping and falling asleep while on meds (calming effect for some). Also the period when meds are leaving the body can be hard on the person for a while. Sometimes it is disorienting to think more clearly on meds, then go back to the unmedicated state.
He didn't have any problems falling asleep. He came home sit down and out he went. He is very hard to wake up but I am keeping a close eye on him. He was given Aderall XR 5mg. It was given to him at 7 am this morning, he fell aslepp at about 2:45 pm. Its currently almost 8 pm and I just made him get up and eat. Of course he wouldn't eat and was sick to his stomach. I spoke to the dr due to the concern. We are going in tomorrow morning before giving meds to make sure he doesn't have a virus that is going around. I understand the virus could be making him tired but confused as to why it would matter if we continued meds. I'm assuming just in case the meds are causing this. I was just expecting him to have problems falling asleep (only sleep side effect I read about or dr mentioned), which was just the opposite. I even have the stuff the dr gave us just in case he couldn't sleep tonight. It doesn't look like I need that :)
We went to the dr this morning. He does not have the virus that is going around. The doctor believes this may have been his way of coming down off the meds. We are going to see what reaction we get today and go from there. He did say this definalty was not a high enough dose. We are going to try the daytrana patch next if we have the same results today :)
