I have a question here since the patch may not work for my son due to irritation that's not going away well. Does the Methlyin chewable have a good taste like cherry or grape or something kids like? Or does it tase like medicine. I just don't know what I'm going to do if we have to stop the patch he's such a gagger and a refuser to swallow pills. He will take cherry flavor chewable tylenol though so I'm just wondering if the Methylin tastes good to kids?
As chasesmom79 has said, you need to get the right dose, then work out the schedule for best coverage and avoidance of rebound, etc. Ask the doctor for an overview of the usual titration (working up to the effective dose) schedule and then where you go. This will depend on the symptoms and the times that they adversely affect your child, and any side effects found as you titrate up (appetite or sleep issues). My son is 3 1/2 and has been diagnosed with ADHD. His doctor put him on 2.5mg of Methylin chewables, but it doesn't seem to be working. He has upped his dosage to 5mg and they told me to have him do both in the morning at the same time. I was wondering if anyone else has their child on this and what they do. I'm tempted to give him one at breakfast and then another one at lunch because in the evenings he is just completely out of control. Thank you so much for your responses and help.
If the 2.5 mg dosage is not working, then spacing them out more than likely will not help. It would be better to up the dose (take them both at the same time) and see if it is more effective. Then after you get the dose to the most effective mg, you can see if rebound (the afternoon issues) are still happening, if they are, you can add an afternoon dose to carry him through the afternoon and evening....if you are still unsure, ask the doctor what he/she thinks about an afternoon dose.
