Thanks so much to Chase's mom to replying to my periactin question. I'm looking for suggestions on diet for my 5 year old ADHD child who is taking Focalin XR twice daily. First, my doctor is suggesting periactin to stimulate appetite. I would greatly appreciate any input out there on this drug. He has your typical low appetite and eats almost no lunch or dinner, then is starving at 8pm when he is in bed for the night. We are trying the protein bars at night for a snack, but he really doesn't care for the taste. Any suggestions on brands/flavors that your kids like? Lastly, I have tried to find a support group in my area of Raleigh, NC. CHADD must be fairly inactive here because no one ever responded to emails or calls I've made. I am finding some difficulty with my social relationships with other moms whose children don't have special needs (or at least they haven't admitted it yet). Thanks for the suggestions.Is there a children's hospital in the area that has a child development program? These will have all kinds of services for kids and parents, including training, and seminars. They may have info on support groups in your area and may be involved in some of them.
Thanks Vickie- we live 30 mins from Duke and UNC- I think Duke has an ADHD program staffed with psychiatrists, psychologists, etc. Maybe I should check into that???
Sounds good. Many are not fortunate to have these resources available.
