from Adderall to Strattera | ADHD Information
Thanks for the reply, when you say you weren't on it long, how long did you give it a try?
I've read with others on doses, and tomorrow I jump to 60mg, did 40mg for the first 4 days. I did have fast heart rate this am...nothing major but noticable.
I don't want to give up, but would like a little more 'oomph' in my day!
Amy
Hi:
I was never on Adderall but was on Strattera unsuccessfully. Same issue - my cardiologist didn't want me to have stimulants due to my weak heart. I was really tired too for the first few days but that went away and then had other side effects such as dry mouth, headaches, sleep disorder, and chest tightness. The dry mouth/eyes got so bad that I gave up on Strattera.
Keep a journal so you know how you are progressing or not. Unfortunately, I was never on it long enough to get any beneficial result.
Good luck.
I was on Ritalin for only a Day and it gave me a panic attack, so my doctor switched me to Straterra. I feel like i should have tried the ritalin a bit longer because it might have helped me and straterra does make me tired. But it's only been a week or so....so i don't know.
My son is on strattera and we give it to him at night with his supper which is about two hours before bedtime. He has had no side effects doing it this way. When he first started taking it, we gave it to him in the morning and he was extremely sleepy and not himself. Good Luck[QUOTE=agirlandherdogs]Thanks for the reply, when you say you weren't on it long, how long did you give it a try?
Amy[I was on it for 1 month. There are people with good result so don't give up. It might work for you. But just be watchful of the side effects and let your doc know if they bother you. I tend to be super sensitive to meds, any meds so I wasn't surprised I couldn't tolerate Strattera. Good luck./QUOTE] a little different story on my end...i started 40 mg of strattera along with
my adderall. i felt fine but then when i went up to 80mg of strattera i cut
my adderall down.
i felt okay with 40 mg but then with 80 mg i felt HORRIBLE for about a
week and a half...dizzy, sick to my stomach, fuzzy vision, sensitive to
light and noise....after that i started feeling great...better than i have felt
in a long time.
my wife says that i am a lot calmer...you know how adderall wears off and
you can feel it...i don't notice it with the strattera...it will be 11 or
midnight and i am still feeling good. the strattera made me tired at first,
but it's not so bad now, but i do take it right before bed.
hope that helps. It's just coming off the Adderall. That feeling should go away within a week or so.Has anyone gone from Adderall or other stimulants to Strattera? I was just switched on Friday and all I want to do is sleep. I feel lousy.
How long did it take before you felt like doing anything?
I really don't like this, but cardiology doesn't want me to take stimulants at all so I can't add any adderall to my strattera. I am on 40mg for 4 days and then 60mg after that. I realize that it takes a few weeks to see effects, but I can't deal with this for a few weeks.
Hoping someone has some experience...
Amy I suffered through 12 weeks on Strattera. I only had one productive week on it.. during week 4. It was productive yes... but still had severe side effects from it (including being extremely fatigued) That was at 60mgs. Then it would wear off at 5pm and it's not supposed to wear off. So the Dr upped it to 80mgs. I was again tired, got really sick and ended up with a very bad ear infection and caused a slew of other problems. To me, Strattera has the highest level of possible side effects and drug interactions with other meds. I've seen a few that did well on it.. but not that many. By the end of the 12th week I did not have one single benefit from it... only bad side effects. My Dr told me in the beginning that Strattera doesn't do as well for those with ADHD combined or hyper, but is more inclined to help Inattentive types.
I'm now trying Focalin XR and trying to get the dosage right. I'm up to 20mgs now. Good Luck, I really did give it an honest try with Strattera and my Dr said that I should definitely have felt something by 12 weeks and chose another med.
