My Oldest Daughter Currently gets SSI, My Middle Daughter was Diagnosed last year in Sept. & I filed for her as well in March of this year. It does take 6months. And once your approved they will give you the amount owed from the day you filed. I didn't know that she was able to recieve these benifits until one of her pre school teachers from daycare told me about it.
Both of my girls are currently taking Focalin XR in the morning and Clonidine at night for sleep. They are both doing wonderful at school and even at home. They do both have Language difficulties and are in the Language Class 60 min a week, I don't know what I would do if it wasn't for their teachers and everyone else invovled with them at school. They have an IEP and they are improving.
I hope this is somewhat of help to you;-)
What kind of info do they ask for? My friend keeps urging me to apply but I don't think I will qualify financially.

I had heard that some ADHD kids qualify for SSI.
Receiving SSI would really be a nice bonus for us. We make a find income, however, our insurance doesn't cover mental health 100%, scripts 100%, my son could really benefit from tutoring and maybe even some special camps, ect. .. for ADHD kids.
However, becuase of our income, we will never qualify for any type of discounts, ect... so we just keep pouring more money out of our own pockets. We probably don't even qualify for SSI if it is income based.
I do wonder if this "hurts" or negatively impacts them in the future with college, grants, jobs, ect...
It is very different state to state. It is worth checking into.
My daughter has ADHD and we receive the Disablility Allowance here. She has a medical review every year, but we have received it for the past 4 years, although we are in New Zealand.

I recieve for both my oldest two daughters. They both have Adhd, my oldest shows all three, Implusive, Attention, & Hyperactivity and my 2nd oldest which is my middle daughter shows Implusive and Hyperactivity.
If anyone wants to learn more about children benefits from SSI which is Social Security Income then go to this link it has all the info you need...... http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10026.html#ssi-benefits
Even though my children have Adhd they also have a learning disability from having Adhd, some children have problems in school in certain subjects and some don't. It just all depends on the child. But I have also learned from my oldest daughter doing a visual test to find out IQ that her school gave her, that she was actually above average and showed a high IQ, I spoke with a lady that had me signed papers to have my daughter go into further testing to see if she is eligible for the gifted program in school for the next school year.
She stated that a lot of children who have Adhd are also well gifted meaning having a high IQ, All of this stuff is very new to me and I am learning something new everyday.
Even though these test that she took say she is smart, she is still struggling in some subjects like mostly reading, I am working hard and she is passing, so that's great.
Parents with children with special needs and attention have it 50 times much harder, I am always stressed esp. having 3 children.
I would like to know of some calming and relaxing ideas from other parents on here. I don't have family where I live, so dropping them off at a family members house would be hard for me. Just anything I can do to unwind at my house......I hope that link helps many of you;-)
God Bless You & Ur Family!

What exactly is the SSI disability?Ds is on ODSP which is the disability here in Ontario. He has ADHD and a learning disability. He is in a learning and life skills class. So I'm not sure if his ODSP is soley for his learning problems or his learning problems and ADHD.what kind of benefits do they get?
