Cost for treatment with/without insurance | ADHD Information

I have a window of four days to decide whether to add my husband to my insurance (he doesn't get medical insurance at his work), but the cost would be 0 a month which would put a huge strain on us. My husband needs to see a doctor and start medication to get his ADD under control. So my question is, how much (ballpark) would it cost without insurance to see a doctor and pay for the medication?

REALLY EXPENSIVE!! The cost to get tested depends on what type of doctor gives the diagnosis and how many times he has to go to get evaluated.....Plus, when starting medication, he'll probably have to go to the doctor fairly often for med. checks....and even after he has it under control, he'll still have to go back for med. checks every-so-often.....As far as medication costs, it depends on what drug and where you get it....I take adderall xr and have insurance, so I just pay 35 for my prescription per month....I am not quite sure what it would cost without my insurance...but I found a place that says 1/3 of my prescription would be 95 per month...I don't know if it's cheaper if you have a bigger quantity, or if it stays the same....basically, it is expensive. I hope that things work out well for you and hopefully this helped at least a little!

You definitly want insurance vrs paying!!ADHD med is expensive even with insurance in my case!!I see  a pychiatrist once a month and I dont even want to know what it would cost.I've heard as much as 400 an hour. Not uncommon for meds to cost 85 for 30 days.Dont quote these prices as I imagine they differ from place to place but regardless where you are its gonna cost alot.If I wasnt covered under my wifes wonderful insurance(shes got the better job) I would have to quit my med and just be ADHD.Good luck and let me know how it turns out for you.   ShaneThanks for the info. I guess the better choice is pretty clear.

I live in Louisiana, and after my dad paid all of that money (not sure how much) I was told that I could go to a social services place and the state pays for your diagnosis tests and therapy.  I'm not sure if that is going to work where you are located, but its worth a try.

As far as medication, if you take Adderall, you can get the generic version (which is the same as Adderall) and it costs me a month, but I do have health insurance.
