Mind Body Solutions? | ADHD Information

Since my 12 year old has been diagnosed (inattentive) a few months ago, the meds have had great affect.  In fact, just today, I ran into his Social Studies teachers  whose eyes welled up with tears as she gushed about his improvement.

But...the ultimate goal is to eliminate meds and learn to cope and perhaps retrain his brain.  I have spent hours researching and wonder what other parents have experienced.

We are near the Hallowell Center and I have visited with the DORE rep there.  I "get" the concept but the expensive "marketing" or repackaging of a proven concept bothers me.  So I took to the internet and have found that I am quite taken with a few things that in combination make sense.

BrainGym, Learning Breakthrough and Bal-A-Vis-X are things I would like to incorporate into our son's life in the hopes that his brain may take on new pathways and eventually lessen the need for drugs.

What is your experience with such programs?  Have you done them on your own (as I plan to over the summer)  Do you think they help?

I have to say, many of the concepts in the book "Making the Brain Body Connection" come straight out of my yoga practice.  I myself KNOW that I feel more alert, calm and focused as  a result and hope to pass that feeling on to him.

As I typed this I remembered that as a very young child, he would, on his own, plug in a kid's yoga tape and proceed to follow it.  It impressed me so that a child so young could recognize that it helped him feel better.

What are your experiences and what advice can you offer?
