My son was switched from the Daytrana Patch to Strattera today. I am a bit concerned because I do not know about the drug. How long do the effects last during the day? Is there an average amount of time? How long did it take to see a difference? WHat effects are there to switching from a stimulant to strattera?
He has done well in school with focus and impulsivity, but has developed anxieties with bugs, being perfect and restrooms. He lost 6 pounds on Daytrana and is not sleeping well. I am hesitant to interfere with his learning at school, but the weight loss and the anxieties are hindering his life as well.

Strattera is dosed according to weight and MUST be ramped from the lowest dose ( 10 mgs)to the target dose. Target dose is 1.2-1.8 mgs per kilo of body weight.
It generally takes 4-6 weeks after reaching the target dose to see full effectiveness, and it is a 24 hour med. Side effects will/should subside during the ramp period.
