Concerta dosing and tics | ADHD Information

My 9 year old son started 18mg of Concerta a few days ago.  He has developed a mild blinking tic.  So far it is under control.  Although we are seeing many positive changes at home, his teacher said that his is more cooperative and attentive, but not "significantly"  If his doctor decides to increase his does, is that likely to make his tic worse?  Thanks.Tics may be unmasked by stims, and they may go away or get worse. It is very individual. It may not happen on other formulations of the same stim or other stims. You need to see what the doc's usual stratagy is for tics. When you get to good control of the ADHD, if tics are still a problem, it is posible to add guanfacine (tenex) to reduce tics and treat some of the ADHD symptoms. Just to say there are options and it may take some trial to get to the best treatment for your son.My daughter has taken several different stimulants. Definitely some increased the incidence of tics, and others did not. They say the tics are not caused by the stims, but she's never had them when not on stims, so not sure about that. It is totally trial and error.
