Car accident | ADHD Information

Yesterday on the way to fill my son's new perscription, we were in a car accident.  We changed to Strattera due to his weightloss and anxieties.  We are all ok, just really sore.  We were checked at the ER to be safe.  I am worried about the lasting effects the accident will have on him.

Anyone else have a car accident with their child in the car?  Any ideas what to expect.  THANKS

Lynn sorry to hear you were in a car accident. Luckily you are all ok. My kids and i were in a car accident early this year. Right in front of my parents house. My ds 11 adhd was in the passenger side and that was the side that was hit. Of course we were all very shakin up. But my car was smoking and we thought it was on fire and he managed to get the door open and grab his little sister out of her carseat in the back. After everything settled down he got a little emotional but was ok. We were all checked out at the ER and everybody was ok but soar like you are. For awhile he would tell me not to drive thur that intersection. So when we went to my parents house i would have to go around the block so we wouldnt have to go thur that intersection. Now he tells me i can go thur that intersection but we stop and we both look even though there is no stop sign there. My son has talked with his counsler about the accident and hes ok now. The accident has not had any long lasting effects on my son. So i hope that makes you feel a little better.

My DD has been in the car when I was in 3 accidents( rear-ended all 3 times) and she has had no lasting effects other than a bit of soreness. My oldest was in the car when my hubby totalled his car. She was 6 or 7. She was achy for a few days. Other than that there were no issues, and if it is brought up she mostly remembers the teddy bear the police gave her at the scene. You might need to watch for increased anxiety (can come out in sleep issues, anger, or fear). I'm sorry! I'm glad you are all ok.  I have not been in an accident with my children, however we witnessed a bad accident that happened RIGHT next to us.  It was over a year ago and my daughter (non-ADHD) still talks about the horrible sound it made.  I just let them talk about it whenever they want to and I do my best to make them feel safe.  We talk alot about the importance of seat belts and child car seats, and how mommy needs to have quiet (!!!) in the car when she drives, etc...
