Good day! It's been a while. Things have been going pretty well. But we saw the Psychiatrist today for a med check. My son is 8 1/2 and has ADHD and ODD. He is on Concerta and Tenex. We have been suspicious that he may also have a tic disorder and maybe anxiety.
Well today the doc seemed fairly sure he did have a chronic tic disorder and anxiety. He wants to start him on zoloft for the anxiety. I am confident it would help yet WAY hesitant to start it. I hate the thought of my baby being on 3 different medications!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
I have an anxiety disorder and antidepressants have always made my anxiety better but made me feel depressed (which I wasn't before I started the meds) now I am on something specifically for anxiety.
One of the adverse reactions of zoloft can be depression and suicidal thoughts.
Anyway, I haven't decided what to do. I want to help make his life the better for him without hurting him.
Thanks for listening

That is a tough one. I take an anti-anxiety med myself, and it helps tremendously. I don't have any depression side effect, just a little sleepier in the afternoons. But anti-depressants effects on children are different, so I understand your hesitation. I'd hesitate, too. Good luck with whatever you decide.I was on Zoloft a couple years ago for anxiety and depression, and it worked wonders. I realized later that it was also helping my ADHD symptoms (I hadn't been dx'ed with that yet).
As far as the warnings go, the chances of your son becoming depressed or suicidal while on the med are very slim. One of the problems with these warnings is that you are giving the med to some one who is typically already depressed, which means that getting more depressed, or suicidal, is something that is part of that illness for some people. I don't think anyone can say for sure just how much the meds influence those things, but they put the warnings on there to cover their @#*&.
