Getting Tested | ADHD Information
Hi Danielllie...I am 19 and actually had to go in to get evaluated on my own because my parents don't believe in ADD/ADHD....I was in the same position as you are...I don't like doctors, and I almost never went to them. I was really hesitant to make an appointment, but I knew that I needed to.....What I ended up doing was going to a doctor that diagnosed my friend; and I brought that friend along with me. Having him there helped a lot too because the doctor asked him a lot of his opinions/observations. My first appointment lasted quite awhile...I don't remember exactly how long (over an hour.) The doctor just asked me a ton of questions about all aspects of my life and had me rate a bunch of statements according to how well they described me and my behavior. Contrary to popular beliefs, there are no tests to see if a person is ADD/ADHD....although many doctors do administer these "ADD/ADHD tests" and claim that they work to diagnose.....Hopefully this will help you out a little. Sorry, I would write more, but my brain is else-where! Hope your appointment goes well!
I personally went through a whole bunch of psychological testing. For
the most part it was pretty fun. They test I failed most on was a aural
comprehension test. This woman told me this big long story, and then I
was supposed to answer a list of questions about the story.
The first question was "What was this story about?"
All I could muster was "Something about a grasshopper and a milkman?"
To this day that's all I can remember about the story. My answer made
the tester woman burst out laughing, and I guess remaining questions
were unnecessary.
Hi, I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what type of tests you went through to confirm that you had ADD. I've always had the worst time trying to concentrate or finish any task, and recently when complaining to my mom about it she told me that the doctors and my teachers always told her they suspected I had ADD as a child, but my mom is very against medication and refused to have me properly tested and diagnosed. I'm very intimadated by doctors, and have an upcoming appointment about my "possible" ADD, and was wondering if someone could walk me through the process of being diagnosed. I'm 21 and have very rarely been to the doctors. Thank you so much for your help!
