Strattera - Adult ADHD

I have been taking Strattera for 6 months now and am very pleased with how much better I feel mentally.  I had been taking Zoloft for years as treatment for diagnosed depression, however, when I saw the commercial for Strattera (depicting a woman with racing thoughts/frustration), I talked with my doctor and we found that I showed many symptoms of ADHD.  We decided to try the Strattera to see if my depression was perhaps a symptom of my inability to cope with my forever-racing head.  I still take a minimal dose of Zoloft, but the Strattera has finally given me the "focus" that I have been longing for in my day to day life.

The side-effects are what bring me to this discussion forum.  I am finding that over the past 3 months that I bruise very easily, bleed longer when I cut myself and get very dizzy if I stand up too quickly.  I would also like to know if any women taking Strattera have experienced extreme menstrual disruption - I now have my period for several weeks out of the month and I bleed terribly.

Has anyone had any of the same experiences?  I have just made an appointment with my doctor to discuss these possible changes in my physical self, and am hoping that he doesn't recommend taking me off of it as I haven't felt this focused mentally since I can remember.

Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

Amy

I'm about to try Strattera for the first time in addition to my other meds to treat depression and ADD. My doc sounds very optimistic about its effects on both, and I've never in my life been able to focus, and as a law student, it's suddenly become a necessity. I was wondering what happened with the bleeding issues that you were having. Were those ever explained or resolved? I have endometriosis, which already makes menstruation heavy and unpredictable, so I'm wary of making it even worse. What did your doc say about it?

Also - are you still having good results with Strattera? Any need to change dosage? Is it having a good effect on both depression AND ADD?

Thanks!

The bleeding would have me seriously concerned. I'd get to the doctor ASAP.

I was wondering if anyone know's anything about the effects of Strattera with illegal drugs.

I'd assume it would be the same as the effect of mixing any drugs no matter if they are prescription, illegal or over the counter. Some people can mix all three and luck out and have no problem another person can mix something simple like aspirin and cough syrup and end up dead.

Hey everyone,

I have ADHD, and have tried many a pill. I've tried retalin, adderal, diseprimine, wellbutrin, effexor, Lexapro, and now Cymbalta.  The Cymbalta would be just great, if Lily came with a dose that is lower than 20mgs.  The 20 mgs makes my prefrontal lobe feel quite full.  I have this feeling that if the dose was a bit lower, that I would not be so aware of my brain.  Is anyone on this drug for ADHD, and feeling the same way?

I have been taking Strattera for 3 months now and it has really help with my moods I know its not an antidepressedent but I feel more in control of my thoughts and moods so obviously feel happier.  The only side effect I have is dry mouth I wonder if that will ever go away.  I went to the dr. today for a ADD test I sat in front of the computer for 22 minutes and had to click when I say a white box flash at the top.  Whats that all about ?  How can they tell If I have ADD by that.

Any comments would be appreciated!

So what's the scoop on this new report about severe liver
damage from Strattera? I have hepC and am about to start
interferon treatment and the last thing I need is something else
attacking my liver. Sheesh. I hate the whole angle of these drug
companies. They're shoving crap down our throats faster than
they can test it and it's for some pretty vague stuff. Let's get
those dollars behind AIDS and Hep C cures...and other deadly
diseases. Maybe those just wouldn't be as profitable. The
longer they aren't cured, the more bogus treatments can be
sold.

Out of the 2 million people who take strattera, there were only two reported cases of liver damage. It is very rare for this to happen. Don't worry.

Doctors are supposed to monitor your heart and liver functions while on these meds (both straterra and stimulants) anyway. Your doctors supposed to send you for bloodtests and an EKG a few times a year to monitor if there are any changes or problems. If you already have liver problems I'd think they either wouldn't put you on the meds or would test your liver functions more frequently.

Can someone please tell me the generic names of adderall and strattera, not having much success with a search

Strattera (atomoxetine HCl)

Adderall (Amphetamine Mixed Salts) Not good cooking

Hope this helps

My son has been on Straterra for about 6 mo.   When he started he was taking a 20mg dose and doing pretty well.  His doctor has raised the dose to 60mg and he has serious trouble controlling his anger.  This is not the case when he does not take the drug.  Has anyone else experienced this?
