adderall vs strattera | ADHD Information
I was recently diagnosed with adhd. I have an apponintment with the doctor on thursday who will then precribe me meds. My therapist thinks i should be on strattera. My question is why whould on be prescribed strattra vs adderall.Stratterra is non stimulant. Adderrall is stimulant.

SO WHY WOULD ONE NEED A STIMULANT AND ANOTHER A NON STIMULANT IF THEY BOTH HAVE ADD OR ADHD?
It seems to be all about preference. Both the doctors and the patient have preferences. Sometimes a patient will want to try the non stimulant route first, sometimes a doctor prefers a non stimulant. The stimulants work immediately if they are going to, and are out of the system within 12-14 hours even in the longest lasting form, the strattera is a blood level med that takes time to titrate up to the effective dose, then time to begin working-up to 6 weeks, though results are sometimes seen sooner. the stimulants seem to work for a larger percentage of the ADHD population than does the strattera. sometimes there are health reasons not to use the stimulants.
Hope this helps!chasesmom7939209.2760532407Its not a matter of being ADD/ADHD, but a matter of prefference over whether to use stimulant or non-stimulant. Some folks react differently to stimulant meds such as Adderall.. ainxiety, restlessness and the risk of addiction. If one were prone to addiction it would be in their best interest to try the non-stimulant meds such as Stratterra. mArKo the KIDDEveryone reacts differently to all medications. Both how well they work and the side effects. It is 100 % personal preference. As Chasesmom says the stimulants are meds that take effect immediately and are in and ot of your system depending on the the med, generally 6-10 hours. Stratterra is something that builds in your system and is 24 hour coverage. THANK YOU ALL HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFULL
