I'm so sorry. What a frustrating situation. I don't know your insurance situation, but is there no way you can change doctors? It sounds like you are at least on a waiting list to see another doctor--can you call and beg to get in early? We had an appointment w/ a child psychiatrist in OCTOBER, and I called every couple of weeks and politely asked if there had been any cancellations. They called us this week and we are going tomorrow, so maybe it's the usual--squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Good luck to you. It must be devastating to have meds that work and then have that taken away from you.
well, I asked his regular pediatrician if he would supply the Foculin XR so we could stop all this nonsense and they said that they dont do that and WONT!!!!. I think it might take months to get in anywhere else and I cant wait that long, that is why I left the message with them. BTW, I left the same message 2 weeks a=go and when they called. I was otld that I had not returned the papers from the teacher the dr gave me. ( I did NOT recieve any papers), it is some sort of behavior thing for her to fill out. Instead of arguing, I went and got them, had them filled out, returned them and now left the same message. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHOh my gosh, I'm so sorry! My one bright spot in all of my mess has been his doctor. I was sooo afraid when I moved that I'd be stuck in a similar situation, but this doctor I found has been a god-send. I'm so sorry you and your family are going through this, I hope it works out soon! How unfair for all of you to take him off what works!!I dont know how much more of this I can take!!!!!! I WANT TO SCREAM!!!!!! My son was on Foculin xr 10mg twice daily and he was fine. His teacher stated that he did his school work, did not talk, was great. Our dr retired and we got a new dr who decided the dosage was too high for him and changed him to Concerta. Then, he would only titrate him up every 2-3 weeks, then would not go above the 36mg dosage even though it is not age or weight based.
My ds is talking all the time, I cannot stand it anymore. He is in trouble at school everyday for his impulsivity and mouth, he cannot stop talking. Our April appt got pushed back to May. Now, they have pushed it back to June. I called the dr and told him( message on the nurses line) that we could not wait any longer for another visit and that I wanted something done immediately. The Concerta already does not seem to work on him anymore and I am asking that he be placed back on the Foculin XR 2 times a day. From what I can tell from this dr, he wont do that but wants to try ritalin, the patch, anything but put him back on the Foculin which was the one thing that worked!!!!!
What can I do? The stress level in this house has gotten so high my husband actually told me that he cannot stand to be around my son as he is afraid of snapping on him. I am at a loss and look foward to his leaving every morning so I can have some peace. I never knew one child could cause so much stress.
I hope you get through this quickly. Have you started looking for another doc while you are stuck with this one?
The first thing I thought when I read your urgent message was "everybody slow down!"
I agree to look for another doctor. You need to be comfortable with his physician. Try not to take offense too much to the comments about ears though. He probably wasnt trying to be rude, just poor bedside manner. I wouldnt completely dismiss this. Find out hwat he is trying to say. I had a school nurse call me about my daughters "look" once and we DID go see a geneticist. I was glad we did. She doesnt some horrible disease or anything, but she did have some stuff we needed to follow.
Hang in. I feel for you. I very recently went through this PANIC state with my daughter, her meds, and her doctor. It is frustarting ot NO end. I also called him EVERY day. He would not call back. I wrote and faxed a letter (I am the the documentation queen). Finally got my way................it's that sqeaky wheel thing). Slowing down is the right answer, but hard to do. Even though we are on the road past my daughter's "crisis" I am still having insomnia.........week 2
. Try being patient when you havent slept well for over two weeks.
Even though my son was on Foculin xr 10mg twice a day for years, this dr thought the dosage was too high for my son and stated that one pill in the am should have worked all day. It was explained to him that my DS has a very fast metabolism and the meds were wearing off by about 1130 when given at 7am. That is why he got the 2nd dose. He thought it was too high.
This is the same dr that after one visit in february sent a note telling me that my son has funny looking "crumpled ears" and he thinks we should have genetic testing done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate to say this but.....I had extra meds in the house and increased my sons cocerta up to 54mg today and have enough to do that for one week. I want to see what happens at school. If his teacher tells me that he is an angel again, then I know what to do. If the dr wont return my phone calls, then I have enough Foculin in the house to put him back on his original dosage foe a little over one month. I may have to do that while I look for another dr.
I'm with you...look for a new doctor and plead for mercy on getting an appointment. It is obvious that this doctor is not listening to you and insulting you at the same time! Do you have a friend or acquaintance that uses a different doctor that they could call and maybe get you in quicker. You definitely shouldn't have to PAY someone to ignore your concerns and insult you.
