Cautiously Excited | ADHD Information

We have had much the same experience with Concerta.  Our 12 year old son is very talkative and fills me in on details of his day.  His teachers, who do not know of his meds, report how wonderful he is doing and how happy he seems to be in school.

We have used the meds for little over a month now and I do notice some days are not perfect, but compared to the past, it is a miracle.

We found the stomach ache and headache passed after a week or 10 days and now we have almost no side effects.  Rebound seems to be tempered by a skate board or hockey session in the driveway in the afternoon.

Oh that is encouraging to hear. I'll let him know that it will pass. I also spoke to his teachers yesterday and they are amazed at the difference.

I've been telling these dam teachers he was an extremely bright boy he just needs a little extra help. They know they've screwed up.

Anyway, now that he is diagnosed and being treated I can get in these teachers faces legitamitaly and tell them where to go if they treat him with contempt again. I've been fighting the system here for three years and the teachers are not helping much.

you have every right to be excited. Way to go Sound like a good start to effective treatment. Do not be discouraged if he starts having problems over the next few weeks. As he gets used to the med, he may need a dose increase.

My dd is also on Concerta... isn't it wonderful to see the excitement in their faces.  My dd did the same thing... then she started to remember things that I promised to do and forgot about... like sew a shirt for her, or a trip we are going to make... hee hee hee.

She has not had any side effects from it, but the lack of appetite, which is very common.

Congrats... I know it's great when they can see the difference and what they can achieve.

I agree with Vickie... my dd was on 18mg for 3 1/2 months then we upped it to 27mg because her focus was starting to lag.  right now that is working.

Good luck to you family.

Ah thanks so much, today was good too. right now he's having tummy aches I hope that will end soon I hate to see him feel so good about himself and feel miserble at the same time.

My son started his one a day med Concerta yesterday and he came home from school excitedly telling me about his day Wow! he remembered details about the whole day and went on about several things that was going on. OMG!! he has never done that before and the details, it's like he soaked in the whole day and retained it all!  I'm pretty excited. This morning while taking him to school he pulled out his math book show'd me what they are working on . They have started working in the basics of PI and he was telling me about this and that and how this works and what that means -I'm  so happy for him he beamed at me saying "mom, this is 5th grade math"  and he is in 4th.  I know I shouldn't get to excited yet, but in one day he has been more open with me than this entire year without it being a big chore in telling me how his day went.

keeping my fingers crossed for more days like this.

Sounds like a great day...hopefully the first of many!
