Adult Daytrana Use? | ADHD Information

daytrana worked so well for me. i just wish i could get a pack of the patches that actually worked:
backing would peel off
it would stick
there would be medication in it
etc...

My daughter is on Daytrana....

The neurologist who put her on it said that she was having amazing results with adults.

It ttok a few days until we noticed a difference.  And yes in the beginning it took 2 hours to kick in ... but it kicks in quicker now.

Also I know adult on 40mg ... 2 (20) patches.  May want to ask your doctor.

I haven't been on the board for a few years, I guess cuz my ADD was under control with my Adderall....

But its stopped being effective.  I was taking regular Adderall 20 mg twice a day with my weekend vacations.

That being said, I discussed some alternative that I was interested in but my PCP said that she was only familiar working with the Adderall Family, Straterra, Ritalin Familiy and now Daytrana; otherwise she recommended a psychatrist collegue to go to explore other alternatives.

I was interested in Dextroamphetamine, and since she didn't have any experience with Dexadrine etc she didn't feel comfortable prescribing it to me and suggested Daytrana.  She said she had numerous adult patients with great experiences with it so far, including a psychatrist patient of hers.

My hesitancy with Daytrana is that it is effectively an all day release, controlled release whatever of Ritalin.  I initially took Ritalin when I was originally diagnosed with ADD 3 years ago and I didn't fair well.  That may have been because it was generic or because I was in the multiplying the low prescribed dose stage to find out what dose worked.  Well, it didn't really work. It was choppy at best, peaked early, made me anxious and jittery.

I then went on Adderall, got comfortable with 20 mg twice a day and it worked for a few years.  Now its not, it takes a while to come on, the effect is way more mild and doesn't last long.  And I really need it to work!

So, in sum, while Daytrana isn't marketed for adults, have any of you had any experience with Daytrana or know of any ancedotal evidence?  Thanks for listening.

It is day three and unfortunately not going well.  I am on the largest patch, 30 mg, and I don't feel a thing.  No effects good or bad.  It is very frustrating.I can't offer any words of wisdom about adults using Daytrana as I thought it was only for children up to 12 years of age. I just wanted to second what Diane V stated.. my daughter is actually the opposite of hers, she could not tolerate Metadate CD.. (hasn't tried anything else long acting as a Stimulant) I suggested short acting since my oldest son did well on it... and she does fine on that too.  I hope it works for you. Many people love it. Seems like a great concept. We, unfortunately have just never been able to handle the stimulants. Keep us updated how it goes. Diane V:  I certainly hope that is the case with me.  Today  is my first day with Daytrana and its been two hours since putting on the patch and I am awaiting the "light bulb" moment.  Thanks for your insight.I do not have experience as an adult using meds, but have a lot of experience with my child. Just so you know, different delivery methods of the same medication will not have the same effect and/or side effects. Example my daughter could NEVER handle any short acting Ritalin, but gets by on the longer acting or extended release. We've never used Daytrana. I guess my point is not to base your decision on your prior expereince with a different form of Ritlain.
