Concerta and Rapid Weight Loss | ADHD Information
you should call your doctor probably anyway. Bruising and weakness should not be side effects from your meds. Thanks for the replies... I'm keeping an eye on it, just so that I can call the
dr next week if it continues at this rate... I'm down another 3 pounds, and
that's even AFTER drinking 2.5 liters of water to try to re-hydrate myself
incase that was a problem...
I'll go try to pick up some instant breakfasts today... I need SOMETHING,
I'm bruising incredibly easily and just feeling really weak, was hungry last
night when I got home from work but didn't eat because it was after
midnight, and figured if I ate, I'd be up all night and not able to sleep.... I
get off earlier tonight though, so I took the medicine a little earlier than
normal and hopefully it'll wear off in time for me to be hungry for dinner. It will level off some, but keep an eye on it. Those instant breakfasts are great, my daughter has used those in the past also.Having had a jaw abcess that dropped my weight to 125 lbs one time [and MODEL weight for my height is 138-142, 148 is set point for me] I suspect it is the mouth problem.
Get some of those instant breakfasts and some ENSURE because it has all the vitamins in it. I found they helped
I'm 22, I started taking meds for adhd when I was in jr high... just this
Monday I was switched from Adderall to Concerta... so far the Concerta
has worked amazingly well for me... I've always been on and off with
taking the adhd meds of any kind, partially because of unpleasant side
effects, partially because of people telling me that it's just a "cop out" and
a "made up disease" and that I'd never be respected if I took meds like
that and that I'd never be successful... but now I really want to stay with
Concerta, as I have minimal side effects, it lasts longer in my system than
any of the other meds I've tried, it's just once a day which I can do- more
than that and I'll screw up and either not take it or accidentally take a
double dose.... and after several talks with my advisor at school I think I
plan to finally be compliant with taking the medicine and ignore what
other people say, after getting an A on a really hard exam this week, and
getting a promotion to the management team at a place I just started
working at this week (only worked there 13 hours, they were so
impressed they said I earned a promotion and raise already), that proves
to me that I can be successful, and that the medicine does help (since I
almost lost my other job a few months back when I decided to pull myself
off my medicine).
But, I'm having concerns about rapid weight loss... how much is too much
too soon? And is that typical with this medicine? I haven't really eaten
much at all this week, partly cuz my appetite isn't there, and partly cuz
my teeth hurts due to a large cyst I need to have surgically removed in a
couple weeks, so til they take care of that it hurts to chew, so I'm limited I
guess to soups and smoothies... I don't know what else I could drink/eat
that would be healthy... but in the past 4 or 5 days, after starting up the
concerta, I've lost almost 10 whole pounds... is that too much? Should I
go back to check with the dr? That amount worries me, but the nurse
said to "wait and see" if it levels off... part if it could be if I'm drinking less
water, I don't think I am but that's a possibility, and it's been hot, so
maybe I'm just slightly dehydrated- tho all my vitals that I've been
checking myself say my hydration levels are okay... either way, even if it
was from dehydration, that amount of dehydration wouldn't be good
either, even if it is just water weight, isn't 10 pounds in under a week too
much? It's not that I can't stand to lose the extra weight... losing 20
pounds wouldn't be a bad thing for me to do- but I just want to make
sure it's a HEALTHY weight loss if/when I do lose it, not a too rapid
unhealthy weight loss, and I want to make sure that it doesn't drop so low
that I become underweight, which is also unhealthy.
