Tips for Improving Focus in School | ADHD Information
Timed math problems are a common delema[sp] for adhd kids. One thing I would suggest is to have the teacher offer him fewer problems. If the class has 20 problems and he can't complete them, then ask for an accomodation to be made where he only has to do , say 10. The purpose of timed math is to learn it well enough to remember with instant recall. Your child may just be bored. As long as he can do 10 problems and is able to succeed finishing them and getting them right is more important than how many problems he has to do.I'm a writer and the mother of a 9 1/2 year old boy with ADD. He does
pretty well academically, but has a terrible time with keeping focus on his
homework and school work. I'm writing an article for a parenting
magazine about helping ADD children improve their focus in school.
Would anyone be willing to share tips with me? Also, if you are willing to
let me use your name and tips for my article, please let me know. I won't
use anything unless I get specific permission from you.
What drove me to write this article is just frustration. He has trouble
focusing to finish timed multiplication tests and meeting his reading
goals. I sit with him everyday to guide him through his homework, but if
he has a lot he feels overwhelmed. I want to help him, but I'm just not
sure how.
I was really happy when I found this group. I appreciate any tips anyone
has. Thanks!
