How do you teach a 6 YO to swallow pills?There are many methods to do this...I did a search on the board and came up with these topics for you to read:

We practiced one day with little bits of a fruit snack...then when he got the hang of that I used little bits of the small pretzel sticks so he would get used to the feeling of it being more hard.

Oh yeah, we also used soda.  Someone told me it was easier if you give them soda, I also have heard that using a straw concentrates the flow, but we didn't need that.

He caught on very quickly, and does very well with it now.

 

When I was in CVS the other day, I saw they have a special cup to help with swallowing pills.  They claim that the angle allows it to slide down the throat no problem, all the person does is drink from the cup (there's a spot where you put the pill).  I can't tell you how well it works, but it was something like -4, so it could be worth a try.  The brand was EzyDose, or something like that.I used mini m&m's.  Told him he could eat the ones after he learned to swallow.  Took one try.  [QUOTE=Diane V]Another idea is to put the whole pill in yogurt or ice cream. Years ago, I bought a pill cup like that for my oldest daughter to help her to swallow pills, and I didn't know that they still made them....it worked pretty well for her as i remember...definitely worth a try!
