I read once that extended use of dexamphetamines can cause mild hyperactivity whilst off them, and always figured that applied only to 'normal' people screwing with the chemicals in their brain.
I've found out, however, that in the mornings before i take my meds i feel really on edge, and often go completely berko and annoy my siblings and girlfriend (much in the same way as a stereotypical ADHD sufferer is shown to do). Does anyone else ever get this way once theyre off their meds? Once i take my pills, im completely fine and can focus again without being distracted by obscure things (birds, cheezels, carpet, etc.)
If its any help i take 25-30mg Dex daily

Rae70- I hadn't realized your son was throwing the bat in that matter around toddlers. I suppose that adds a little more to the situation rather than just throwing it in a fit of rage....thanks for understanding - i wish now i hadnt smacked him - but it was just what came naturally - sometimes i wonder about this no smack thing, when it is so natural to do it. even koalas smack thier young (did you know that)I know its not the topic of discussion, but its got more notice than the original post.. :P
Throwing bats around toddlers is pretty bad.. the amount of times i got smacked for throwing sand boondies and playing with sticks.. i turned out fine, and i learned never to do unsafe things. I believe that getting a little smack is fine. i just find it sickening when parents abuse their kids, like taking a leather strap or a length of hose to the back of their kids legs like that lady on today tonight. Oh, and for all you out there not from the great down under, us kids here are pretty tough. we get fed vegemite on toast, for heaven's sake!
Crocodiles eat people, platypi poison people, kangaroos beat the sh!t out of people, and 'dingahs eat boi-bies!' (to coin a well-known phrase). but i never knew koalas smacked their young.... welcome to australia, land of sun, sand, and abusive koalas.. :P
lmao jimbo - screw tourism lol
deang - I probably would have, but I was punishing him sternly for throwing a cricket bat, very hard around toddlers, we are lucky he never hit one. I doubt another childs parent would appreciate me just taking something away from him while they cart their child away in an ambulance with a head injury.
To be honest, I think the punishment fit the crime in this instance.
Rae7038305.6262731481Jamie, I find my son is like this also, I have always kept him off them on w/e. But he is hell lately.
I am also finding he is hell on them lately too, I have no idea what is going on with him, he just seems to be possessed at the moment.
I am giving him time, as I feel all normal children, go through their stages, perhaps this is just a natural phase on top of the ADHD. So I will perserve a while b4 I worry too much.
Had a bit of a punch up with him at the park today, smacked his bum for throwing a cricket bat in a fit of rage. he looked at me with such hatred, I ended slapping his face too, then he cried and came good again.
I have no idea what I am doing half the time. But I hope it works.
Rae70- They say not to use physical punishment with children, as it isn't as effective as other methods and it puts strain on the relationship with the child. They say to only use "physical punishment" in dangerous cases....such as if a child is about to touch a hot stove. Then, it is said, to hit the hand they were going to touch it with so that they associate the "pain" with that particular action (touching a hot stove.) Try emphasizing his good deeds and try punishing in another way such as taking away something he likes for a short period of time.
