Those needing a real life story about how ADHD can control a family should pick up a copy of my book just released. It's about my daughter and wife; a daily two year documentary of the worse times this family of four endured. From happy times to almost divorce and financial ruin until my daughter's counselor opened my eye's to the fact I was dealing with two people in the house with ADHD symptoms and mom's was much worse and out of control. After twelve hours of testing over a weeks time she was diagnosed as ADD with Bi-Polar tendencies. From that point on things got better. Until that report even her psychiatrist was hesitant to say that was the problem. Both have done much better on Concerta and other meds but also with routine counseling sessions.
I'm no book writer. I kept the diary as documentation but then showed it to my wife after things were back under control. She was amazed that she put us through so much. We both thought of others we knew who may be affected and decided to put it in print for others to learn from. She was never diagnosed when young and was labled a problem child and sent away to boarding schools. As an adult she was labled as depressed.
The hope is we can provide insight to just what can happen to untreated people with ADHD. More so that the children are not labled as my wife was and get treatment before it affects their education and as they grow to become our future generation.
