Takes longer for Daytrana to kick in.. | ADHD Information

My 7.5 yo son was diagnosed with ADHD last Fall.  He was successfully taking 10mg of Adderall XR each morning, but we'd notice that by 4:00 pm he was irritable and super hyper again.  Because we do so much after school (soccer mostly), I was hoping to find something to stay in his system a little longer.

We started him on Daytrana 10mg on Friday (6:30 am).  The teacher said he was back to pre med ways (silly, hyper, etc) until about noon but then he really settled down.  We noticed the same thing over the weekend.  It seemed to take more than 2 hours before he was able to focus better.

Do you think he needs a higher dose?  I'm planning on giving it another week or so before calling the DR back, but I was hoping to get some feedback from those who have seen it work.  I wasn't sure if this was symptomatic of it just not working for him or if it could mean we need to adjust the dose.

Any thoughts?

Thanks :)

I think your son just needs a dose adjustment. The instructions for Daytrana are to start at 10mg and work up to the effective dose, no matter what the dose was for previous meds (there have been not cross-over comparison studies).
