Good for you goinnutzz! I actually scrolled the site looking for other posts just to be brought back up to speed on your situation. I re-read you seeing the music teacher post, and you sent her a letter. What ever came of that?
I am so glad you found this doctor you are currently with. If your ds has apsberger's and teachers haven't even picked up on it, how horrible. I still can't figure out why school's now a days don't get it!
I am so happy for your son and you! Keep us posted.

Good for you. You should be proud. Most people are not as informed. This is not necessarily negative, there just isnt much reason for them to be. Everyone cant know everything about everything right?. This is why we as parents need to know our own children so we can be a vocie for them and be the one to educate the people in thier lives.
Dont be too panicked about the Aspergers flag. So many disorders have such a crossover of symtpoms it is difficult for even the experts to sort it out. It is not always cut and dry. Good for the psychologist (and you) for being thorough.
It is a good feeling to be an informed parent isn't it? This message board and others like it have taught me so much and helped me to be a better advocate for Chase as well.
Glad to hear that things went so well for you!
Well, after much searching, insurance issues and starting and re-starting the process, we FINALLY saw a good psychologist! I met with her yesterday and I really liked her - I had talked to her on the phone and wasn't sure I liked her at all, but at this point we are desperate and if she is "in-network" she'll just have to do. But as it turned out I did like her! My son has a meeting with her on the 12th of June - she is going to do some test on the computer. It involves a white box and a black box and you click when it's on top? Anyway, she understood that all we need from her is an official diagnosis so we can move forward. She asked if we planned to medicate and I was so proud of myself, I came right out - with confidence - and said YES! She gave us - and his teacher - the Conner's scale and some other paperwork - on Asperger's - to do. Now let's hope his teacher fills hers out! I was shocked at the Asperger's one. She asked if anything besides ADHD and ODD had been mentioned by his therapist and I said yes, Asperger's, but it was sort of ruled out. She explained it to me - sorry to say it was something I had never researched - and I was shocked at all that it was. I had an idea what all it involved! But, we did take the paperwork on that to fill out cuz after she explained it to me I said yeah, we better look into that too!! But she seemed completely confident in the ADHD diagnosis and said the Conner's scale would tell her more about the ODD. So, I'm super excited that FINALLY we are making progress and hopefully help is around the corner. Or at least a corner!! I am giving myself a small pat on the back tho cuz she was impressed with all I knew - THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!! But it made me feel good to know that I can be a good advocate and voice for my son cuz I do know what I'm talking about! I've done my homework!! (O.K. with the exception of Asperger's) I even have an idea of how and what I want to use as meds cuz I feel like I know him soooooo well. I know what he needs and what parts are important and where he's struggling. So, anyway, I'm pleased and proud and just wanted to share and say THANKS!
I'm so happy for you.
I agree not to be too panicked about the Aspergers flag. Once you start reading on Aspergers, you will see there is a huge scale from very mild to severe. Sometimes, you can't even notice the symptoms in mild aspergers because they do crossover into other syndromes.
Your post has given me hope that I will also be able to find a good pshychologist that can help my son too.
