I cant find a psychiatrist that believes in ADHD in this town! My son got tested by one of the leading mental health groups in Canada, I still think hes got Aspergers (he hates buttons, among other quirks) I've been fighting for my kids for a loooong time.
The worst thing with her, is her ignoring me ....sometimes she does it, cause I can see her diffiant little chin stuck out ...other times shes in "butterfly world" and you have to grab/touch and yell to get her attention. Now shes calling herself stupid! because shes behind in school, and doesn't pay attention to anyones dirrection. I tried to explain to her about her brain, but I lost her after the first minute

I just wonder if instead of Aspberger's, maybe your son has sensory integration. My son had both adhd and sensory, he sees an Occupational Therapist who helps him with his sensory "stuff". Just a thought!
I feel bad for your daughter, it seems that the ADD slips through the cracks more easily than the ADHD'ers. The H really brings attention to it!
My son has the H type and sometimes doesn't "hear" me. I think it is part of adhd, whether it is inattentive type or hyperactive/impulsive type.
Just keep doing what your doing!
You know I was just on the ADHD issues and School board and read about Auditory processing disorder. You may want to read that, not sure but it might help your daughter????
It sure can't hurt!!
I may be wrong, but just wanted to mention it.
I would first rule out any mini seizures by going to a neurologist and having a EEG test run. We did this with my son at age 7... he is now 14 and he is primary inattentive to the extreme also. He also has co morbid anxiety and an auditory processing disorder. Sometimes these kids have several things going on that make the ADHD symptoms seem even worse.
Okiemom
I've got 4 kids, 14 (ADHD-hyperactive), 12 (ADHD-Indecisive,or Innatentive), and 7 yr. old twins, he's ADHD-hyperactive-Impulsive, and shes ADHD-Innattentive ..... BUT crazily so!!!!
She does everything on the Innattentive list, and a few on Hyperactive, and Impulsive lists. But she does them to the extreme! I have never dealt with a child like this, even her teacher says shes never had a child that zones out, or daydreams as much as she does, and shes been teaching for 25 years!
I tried her on Dexadrine, too much and she became s o s l o w ... on 10mg. shes in bad shape, but not as bad when shes off them.
Someone give me some tips please ! I go see the ped in 2 weeks, and I want to be ready for her. Shes not great, but she writes the prescriptions, and gives my kids physcials, so at least I know they're healthy. I don't have a choice, its her or a male ped..... and hes an a@@, dealt with him once... told me my son wasn't ADHD...it was my bad parenting!
My oldest is inattentive and has done well on both concerta and focalin. She no longer loses her work and can complete her assignement easily. She is going into honors next year. It is just a matter of finding the best med for the individual.Have they been tested by a neuropsychologist?Just to be sure there is nothing else going on? Do they have a psychiatrist?I cant find a psychiatrist that believes in ADHD in this town! My son got tested by one of the leading mental health groups in Canada, I still think hes got Aspergers (he hates buttons, among other quirks) My daughter is waiting for her psych testing by the local child development center. She was also tested for seizures, MRI, EEG, the works. I've been fighting for my kids for a loooong time.

I think it will help once you have her psych evaluations. Has she taken any pther meds besides the dexedrine? There SO many medication options. The whole methyphedinate family, and there are several. Ritalin alone comes in three or four forms. Unfortunately it takes lots of trying to find what works. She probably just needs a different med. Keep reading and research the different medications and their delviery method. It is always helpful to go the appointment educated and prepared. Most stimulants have the same "risk" of side effects, however once you take one it doesnt mean anything compared to another or even another delivery method of same med. Soemtimes even a dose "tweak" changes everything. Hang it, it will take some time, but you will find something that works.
