Does guanfacine help w/ stimulant rebound | ADHD Information

Thanks for the replies.  I think I'll talk to the dr. about increasing the PM dose and doing it earlier.  I'd rather not do a booster dose of a stimulant due to the appetite suppression side effects.I'm beginning to think that I'm seeing rebound in the evening when the Focalin XR wears off.  Can increasing the guanfacine dose help combat that?  Obviously I'd consult with the dr. before increasing it, but I'm checking here before calling the dr. to ask.  The main issues are a lot of impulsivity and hyperactivity, as well as increased irritability when he doesn't get his way.

I think that it is prescribed for just that reason sometimes....to smooth out the edges.  Didn't I read that you are just starting the guanfacine?  Perhaps as you ramp up, you will see improvement in rebound.  I know a few children have an afternoon dose (small) for more day long coverage.

Chase has never had rebound issues, so I have no personal experience with it in that regard.

You would have to use an after school dose of guanfacine to help with rebound. It is most effective 6-8 hours.vickie39229.0446527778We used a small dose of ritalin after school for a while to help with rebound on a long acting stimulant. It worked well for the rebound.
