Thanks for the feedback,

So far he is doing better than when he was on ritalin & food is'nt an issue, he's a gannet & loves his food which is really good to see, this was my boy at 18month's!!, when he was on ritalin he was skin & bones & did'nt care much for food, the only issue we have is sleep but im prescribed melatonin now, so i only give him when he really does have problems with sleep.Oh, dear, i will be hoping for you that you can find more med's for him, can you ask his doctor to order them online?? i dont know how it work's in other countries, sorry

Hi Mikmum:

Yes, my son has been doing wonderfully with Concerta after a nightmare he had with Strattera. What is most notable is his mood change. He was the kind of kid who was always upset and complained about everything. He even didn't find enterteinment entertaining, so, figure out. Concerta has given him happiness, he stopped complaining about daily routines; he feels more confident. However, I am not totally convinced about his concentration; but I know that no med will give us complete satisfaction because there are things that need to be worked out and that improvement will follow little by little. That explains that medication is not a magic pill. But we are working on that with therapies and home guidance.

Unfortunately my country has been having too many problems lately, long story... So some imported meds are not available at drugstores, even local ones. I keep researching everyday and calling every drugstore. Yesteday I found another 30 days refill. I have a month of peace; but I keep looking for the med even before that refill is over. If I am not able to find it anymore, my ds will have to be switched to Ritalin.

I need a doctor who is accredited to prescribe in the US. Additionally, and I don't know why, the price of the Concerta in the US doubles the price to which it is sold here. I could possibly do so for a month or maybe two, but for the rest of the time it would be extremely expensive for me. We don't get insurance for adhd here, so... I am just hoping to be lucky every month. In the worst of the cases, I will just have to switch him.

I may be the only one but I did not like Concerta for when it wore off my girl was so crabby it made her mean.  They say every child is different so if it works then great.  I wish you the best.

Both my kids did well on concerta.

The oldest had to switch to focalin because she could not routinely swallow the pills (focalin can be sprinkled). Would love to switch back when she can swallow pills better. She used melatonin to help with sleep.

My youngest did well on it but did not gain weight for 8 months so we switched to focalin and she is now gaining weight. She started sleeping better once we started the meds.

mariaven's son is doing very well on it, but she is having availability issues in venezuela, and may have to switch.

Chase did well on it for about 9 months, but had the eating and sleeping issues.  The sleeping issues we cured with melatonin, but the eating ones were bad enough that we did not want to raise the dose and switched to ritalin LA when the concerta stopped being as effective.

My son has been on concerta for over 2 1/2 years. At first eating and sleeping where tough. We just hung in there and eventually his body adjusted. He eats and sleeps. Some days it is breakfast, lunch and dinner, others it might be a light lunch then a dinner after 7:00 as well as snacks.

Hang in there. We have had great results with concerta. I hope the same for your family as well!!

Good luck on the Concerta. I have heard so many people do very well on it. We used it twice, the first time when my daughter was first diagnosed, but we could not tolerate the weight loss and sleep issues so had to switch to Adderrall (at the time). We recently tried Concerta again as it had been three years. She did not have the sleep problems this go around. We did have to stop it for other side effects that she seems to get from all the stimulants (tics, and increased anxiety). We have had to give up all stimulants.

Good luck. There are lots of ways to help with the sleep. Some people add Melatonin with luck and others are prescribed Clonidine or Tenex.

Mikey started 'concerta xl' last tuesday, he is doing really well, but we still have the sleeping issue, im so pleased.

Anyone else wanna share there story's about this drug, good or bad, i need to know....
